Reasons for the War of 1812

The British were stealing American merchant sailors and forcing them onto naval ships to work for them. This is called Impressment. The Americans had no choice but to work for them. This upset the Americans because their citizens were being stolen.

Prevention of Trade

England made laws so that we had to ask for permission to trade with other countries.

The Americans wanted to expand their borders by taking the land that the Native Americans lived on. This land was owned by the British. This caused the British to get mad because they wanted to take over land that wasn't theirs.
