We are off to a great start here in semester two and are thankful that the weather has cooperated and allowed us to be session each day this month! As always there is a lot going on in Wayne Township for our students both in the classroom and outside of the school day. Two great opportunities to engage with our fellow Wayne community members are available in the next few weeks. The Wayne Winter Games will offer a great chance to test your fitness and embark on a healthier lifestyle, while Wayne Shares will bring together resources from across the community to provide training and information in a wide variety of areas. You can find more information about both events in the newsletter below. We look forward to seeing you at both of these outstanding opportunities!

Teams of 4 will compete in a twenty minute series of 8 team/partner fitness activities plus a relay. All team members will receive a T-shirt for participating. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.
For our friends who just want to sweat a little less, we have plenty of fun lined up with our Fitness Fun Stations and Health Fair. Participants will receive an award for completing an activity/event “passport.” All you have to do is get your passport stamped at the designated activities and booths. Prizes, prizes, prizes will be awarded throughout the day. At the Health Fair, health and wellness organizations will be on hand with information, classes and demonstrations.
There's truly something for everyone in the community. Capitalizing on the spirit that New Year’s Resolutions create, it is our intention to give the local community a benchmark toward which they may work and encouragement to achieve other health and fitness goals all year long. Not only do physically active students do better in the classroom, likewise, active employees miss fewer days of work and experience fewer health care issues, leading to greater personal health and happiness.

Information on Weather Delays
Winter has been gentle with us so far this season. However, as it progresses we may still face the prospect of having to delay or cancel school on a particular day because of snow, ice or other poor weather conditions. I’d like to remind you of some of the key procedures we follow to communicate with our families on these days to keep our students safe.
If school is delayed or cancelled, we will communicate this in the following ways: on local television and radio stations and their websites; on our district website, www.wayne.k12.in.us; through an automated phone call from our superintendent’s office; through Twitter; and on our district Facebook page, which you can access and “like” through our website.
If school is delayed, child care at our Wayne Township Preschool will open on time. If we close school for the day, regardless of whether we bring staff in or not, we will close child care at Wayne Township Preschool as well.
If we announce a delay, that will mean a two-hour delay. This means if your student takes the bus, you can expect his or her pick-up time to be approximately two hours later than normal. Since our pick-up times can vary somewhat during delays, it’s always a good idea to encourage your student to dress warmly in case his or her wait at the bus stop is a little longer than normal.
I appreciate your help in keeping our students safe and healthy during the upcoming winter months.
