Friday Message January 8

A Message from Dr. Ryan Glaze, Superintendent, Tipton Community School Corporation

While 2020 was a unique year and presented everyone with challenges, Tipton Community School Corporation was able to close out the year strong thanks to the continued support and flexibility of students, staff, parents/guardians, and the community. The work that our staff has done to provide the best possible education for our students during this historic time in our country has been nothing short of extraordinary.

When school closings were announced last March 13, 2020, none of us could have anticipated we would be where we are today and that “business as usual’ would no longer be usual. This school year has reminded us that we never know what the future may hold, and we must be ready to adjust accordingly. As we look ahead to the second half of the school year, we remain committed to our precautionary measures to keep everyone healthy and safe while delivering all students with the highest-quality education possible.

While Tipton is among over half of Indiana’s 92 counties designated as red (high community spread), this will not impact our ability to reopen our buildings to in-person classes beginning on Monday, January 18. In fact, our schools continue to be one of the safest places for students and staff. I can attest that school-based transmission remains comparatively low and student-to-staff transmission in classrooms is low or nonexistent. The data continues to reinforce the same safety protocols we have emphasized since August — wear a mask, watch your distance, and wash your hands as effective in reducing the spread of COVID-19.

We believe the second half of the school year will require a combination of in-person and virtual learning, as determined safe using best practices and trend data through our local, state, and federal health partners. As a district, we are prioritizing in-person learning whenever possible, particularly for our Pre-K and Elementary students.

We have taken what we learned from last spring and fall semesters to provide our students and staff with the most robust platforms to teach, learn, and grow in any environment. We continue to witness countless examples of innovation, empathy, and resilience as our staff, students, and families have pulled together. I expect this to continue.

As we look for brighter days and the vision of normalcy ahead, we are excited to get back to the business of education. Our expectations are high and together we will meet or exceed them. Let’s remember the past by learning from our challenges and turn toward 2021 with hope and commitment toward a better tomorrow. Some of the struggles that we experienced in 2020 will make us stronger in 2021 and beyond.

I just want to take this opportunity to wish everyone an exceptional new year filled with peace, kindness, and good health. #TiptonPride
