Binns Family Bulletin
November 2023
HAPPY FALL!!
October was a busy month and there is no exception for November! We are looking forward to a wonderful month with LOTS of activities, but also a time of rest and relaxation. As we look towards the end of the month at Wellness Week we hope that you use this time for yourselves and a time for your students to rest and spend it together.
We are working on creating a new website that is easier to navigate and has more accessibility for our wonderful families. Click on the link below to take a peek. It is still a work in progress, but you can find all the info here throughout the year.
Word of the Month: Listening
Our word of the month in November is Listening! Our students tend to be great listeners, but we want to teach them how to be active listeners. We want them to use their bodies when they listen. Active listeners use their eyes and ears when listening. We want our students to not only be good listeners for their teachers, but also for their fellow students in class and during conversations. Please use the books below to read with your students and talk about listening and why active listening is important!

Levy Info
The District placed a combined 7.7 mill levy (4.7 mill) Permanent Improvement Levy and a (3.0 mill) Operating Levy on the November 7, 2023 ballot.
If passed, the 7.7-mill levy would cost property owners $269.50 annually per $100,000 of appraised value.
The Columbus Board of Education passed a resolution during its September 19 business meeting that focuses on:
-
Advance Student Achievement
-
Modernize District Facilities
-
Enhance Whole Child Supports
“The federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds allowed us to propel this work at lightning pace, now it’s time for us to reexamine and incorporate this in our everyday business functions,” said Columbus City Schools Superintendent/CEO Dr. Angela Chapman. “This would maintain our momentum. We want to make many of these improvements permanent. This ask represents one-third of the Operating funding the District received from ESSER.”
The District has been fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars, staying off the ballot for the past seven years.
During the September 19 Board meeting, the District’s Administration provided the Board with a statement of facts/information about the District’s needs and the implications for the School District of the levy passing or failing.
