New dates for summer school
In order to lessen the “summer slide” for our students, the District 15 summer school schedule will be adjusted beginning in the summer of 2020.
Instead of holding summer school in June immediately following the end of the regular school year, summer school will instead take place from July 6-23 for Title 1 programming and July 6-29 for Extended School Year special education programming.
This adjustment in dates will allow our students to have shorter breaks from instruction over the summer instead of a prolonged gap in July and August.
We wanted to share these dates with you early for summer planning purposes. More information on summer school staffing applications will be shared with you in the spring.
Upcoming professional development
Upcoming professional development opportunities for District 15 staff
Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching (CLR)
Certified staff at culturally & linguistically responsive (CLR) schools are either in-progress or going to be starting Coach 1 sessions. These sessions involve a coach from CLR observing classroom instruction, teaching a CLR protocol, observing teachers implementing the protocol, and offering feedback.
All CLR schools will be doing binder studies.
Fountas & Pinnell Classroom
F&P professional learning cycles will soon be starting! Representatives from the Teaching and Learning Department will be visiting elementary schools in grades K-3 to provide materials and begin professional development on interactive read-aloud.
Student Services
Student services will be continuing the implementation of CPI and LSCI trainings.
