The Tiger Times
Walnut Hill Elementary - September 21, 2020 Volume 1
Welcome to the Petersburg Virtual Academy (PVA) 2020 - 2021 School Year!
It is so exciting to see our students and teachers in the virtual classes each day. The teachers engaging with the students using the various features in zoom and students explaining their thinking in polls, the chat room, assignments and verbally. The ongoing communication with families will continue to be the key to the success of the PVA. If there are any concerns please reach out to your child's teacher.
Our students daily attendance is very important. Some words from our Superintendent, Dr. Maria Pitre-Martin, "Even though our students are not physically present in our classrooms, attendance is of the utmost importance during the virtual academy. Any day missed from school is missed opportunity for growth and success for students." We want and need our students at school everyday.
If for some reason our students are not able to attend PVA because of sickness please send a note the next day. If the sickness is more than three days please send a doctors note. In the event the absence is due to death in the family please send documentation as well. When a student misses a day your child's teacher will reach out to you. If there is no answer the attendance clerk will call and a letter will be sent to your home. After several attempts to reach the family our student support specialist will call and may do home visits. So let's keep the line of communication open.
