Webster Weekly
DANIEL WEBSTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - PASADENA, CA
Information for the week of February 1, 2021

School is online only!
Message from the Principal
It is hard to believe that we are beginning the month of February already. The months are flying by in many ways and dragging on in others. Thanks to our engaging teachers, the weeks in the virtual classrooms are zooming by.
February is Black History month. This gives us an opportunity to highlight important contributions made to society. Students will have opportunities to examine black literature, art, innovations and customs that have helped shape the culture of the United States—and the world.
Please be reminded that part of student success stems from creating an environment conducive to learning. Please encourage students to attend their virtual classes as if they are in the classroom. Students should start the day with breakfast and be dressed for class before the school day begins. Students should also be sitting up to better focus and participate in class. We also encourage cameras to be turned on for increased engagement. A student lying in bed does not present him or herself as being ready to learn.
Please let your friends and family know what a great school community we have at Webster. I encourage all families looking into Open Enrollment to join our virtual school tour on Thursday at 1:00pm. The second lottery will be held in March.
Lastly, please make sure that your Parent Portal account is set up. You will use this account to access attendance records, report cards and update your contact information. Please find information below in the Parent Portal section. You may contact Mr. Garcia for assistance at garcia.esvin@pusd.us.
Have a great week!

Join us in kicking off Black History Month with Jouslynn Griffin who will lead us in an introduction to, Nickole Hannah Jones, The 1619 Project (the New York Times). Be prepared for an enriching conversation, that pushes us to "un-learn" to "learn." What better way is there to start Black History Month in America than from the genesis of the black American experience.

Parent Portal
It is necessary that the school has accurate contact information, including a working email. You can update all important contact information on the parent portal. Aeries Parent Portal is a wonderful resource that all parents need to sign up for in order to access student attendance, grades, and teacher information to name a few. If you do not yet have an Aeries Parent Portal account, you can go to https://www.pusd.us/Page/6203 and follow the instructions to create an account. Please make sure you have set up your account before school starts so you know what class your child has been assigned to for the 2020-2021 school year.
In our commitment to take the appropriate measures to protect all student information and privacy, we are making changes to the requirements for all passwords within Aeries student, parent, and staff portal accounts.
Beginning the week of June 29, 2020, parent and student portal account users should have received an email from DoNotReply@pusd.us that will provide you with a link and instructions on how to update your Aeries portal password. Listed below are the minimum requirements for your new password:
- A minimum of twelve characters
- Change password every twelve months
To view more specific instructions on how to reset your password, please visit:
Resetting Parent/Student Portal Password
For questions regarding this issue, please contact the District’s ITS department directly at Help4ParentPortal@pusd.us

2020-2021 PUSD School Opening Guide
Breakfast and Lunch Curbside Pick-up
The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Food & Nutrition Services program will provide an opportunity for families to drive through and pick up meals for the children in the family, at all of the PUSD school sites.
Starting Monday, August 17, 2020 the following schools will provide a breakfast and lunch for the day. Meals will be served between 9 am – 12 noon, Monday – Friday, in the parking lot or bus
lane at each school site. Please stay in your car and meals will be passed to you.
This program will be solely for the pick-up of meals and meals will not be consumed on site. This
year all the PUSD schools qualify for the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) which means all
students eat at “No Charge” for their meals! Our Food & Nutrition Services has gone
paperless, so all the menus can be found on the Website or on the menu boards at each curbside
pick-up.
Families can now pick-up all the meals they need at any school site. Meaning if a family has
multiple children at multiple school sites, they only need to stop at 1 school curbside of their choice and pick up all the meals they need. It is the goal of the Food and Nutrition Department to make meals as accessible as possible for families. During this time, food is the last thing our families need to worry about.
Starting August 31 st through September 7 th the Food Service Department will be releasing a parent survey asking if the meal times and locations are working for families. It is extremely important to get everyone’s feedback to be able to continue to provide all families with the best service possible.

Tax Deductible Giving through Webster's Annual Fund
Daniel Webster Elementary School has been honored as a California Distinguished School. Great teachers, strong leadership, and parent involvement make Daniel Webster a great school to send our children.
In addition to the great education our students receive, they are also provided with various opportunities to participate in our music and arts activities. We're asking for your support to continue this legacy by donating to the Daniel Webster Annual Fund and help us reach our goal of $50,000.
These funds will be used to financially support our music and arts programs, and to support the instructional goals set forth by the School Site Council
We would like to see every family donate at least $1.00 per week ($50 for the school year) for each child they have enrolled at Daniel Webster.
Think of it as donating less than the cost of a weekly cup of coffee or soft drink to help ensure that your child receives a high quality education.
If you can donate more, we would encourage you to donate towards our Giving Tree. We have various levels of donations:
Bronze - $100
Silver - $200
Gold - $300
VIP - $500 or more
If you are not able to contribute financially please consider donating your time and talents.
To donate:
- Visit our online donation form
If you are making matching gifts through an employer, please let them know that they must provide PEF's information to their employer in order for us to confirm their gift.
Parent/Student Handbook 2020-2021
The entire handbook is important, but with distance learning, I suggest you take special note of page 25 regarding information on Technology Learning Applications.
On the same link, you will also find annual parent notification forms that I recommend be completed through your Parent Portal account.
