The Power of Fellowship
President's Message
Rotary International chooses June as the month to highlight the many fellowships within Rotary that invite members throughout the world to enjoy and learn about common interests. From Amateur Radio to Yoga, the variety of fellowships is akin to the offerings at a Club Fair or the menu on MasterClass - a long list that can be extended when any Rotarian suggests a new fellowship.
The words “fellowship” and “Rotary” are a natural pairing, whether it's through membership in an interest-based group or whether it’s the coming together among club members on a weekly basis. I encourage you to explore the opportunities of Rotary fellowships, and I thank you for bringing the gift of fellowship to our shared experiences throughout this past year.
At the end of this month, I will end my term as president without having conducted a single meeting in person! And, yet, throughout the pandemic (and thanks to Zoom), we have shared fellowship and grown in our relationships as Rotarians. We have 6 new members, we have learned from dozens of speakers about our community’s strengths and needs, we have raised money and shared it with others, we have worked in the community, we have honored students, and we have learned about one another. We have shared joys and sorrows. Our weekly meetings have helped us grow in fellowship during a year when isolation seemed the only option.
Thank you to each and every member and visitor who brightened our Tuesday mornings and made a positive difference in our lives.
Special thanks to the 2020-21 Board members for their service throughout the year:
Angelika Voss Quinn, President Elect, for bringing the community to our meetings through an outstanding array of speakers
Jill Duerig, Past President, for focusing our work on the principles of Rotary and providing guidance
Beth McCormick, Secretary, for maintaining our records with Rotary International and for recording and sharing our Board meeting minutes
Kevin McCallum, Treasurer, for leading our budget planning, creating comprehensive and accessible reports, and managing our finances
Lori Souza, Membership Chair, for encouraging and welcoming new members and for creating a Rotary Club Orientation that invites all members to understand and join our work
Roy Porfido, Club Service Chair, for inviting membership participation in each meeting and ensuring a friendly framework of thoughts, songs, jokes, and celebrations
Frank Vallejo, Community Service Chair, for cultivating our partnerships in the community and providing us with opportunities to serve
Rich Goldstein, Vocational Service Chair, for supporting the career development of our local students and community members and for providing us with opportunities to support others interested in our vocations
Dick Quigley, for encouraging leadership in our youth, especially through the support of Granada’s Interact Club
George Wineinger, Rotary Foundation Chair, for fostering our global citizenship by encouraging us to contribute to Rotary International, the Rotary Foundation, and Polio Plus
Sherri Simoni, Fundraising Chair, for keeping fun and fundraising alive during the pandemic by involving us in creative, enthusiastic, and successful activities
Eric Dillie, Communication Chair, for growing our club’s presence on social media and in the news
Kevin Drake, Grapevine Editor, for keeping record of our meetings and sharing our stories through the weekly Grapevine
And Sarah Palmer and Bassant Abdelrahman, for stepping up to keep our Spring Mini-Grants going
As we close the books on 2020-21 and move forward to a new Rotary year, we are blessed by one another and energized by the fellowship we share.
With deep gratitude,
Philomena

Our Rotary International Donations Make a Global Impact
At our June 22nd meeting, we will recognize all club members who have contributed to Rotary International this year, and will highlight those who have earned Paul Harris recognition. Thank you so much for your generosity that allows our club to make a positive difference for people around the world!
This year, we are asking each of our members to contribute $25 (or more) to Rotary International so that our entire club can have an active role in providing service to people throughout the world. With 100% of our members contributing, we will be recognized as an Every Rotarian Every Year Club. Let's do it!
Remember that we are offering up to $400 in matching contributions to help members attain their Paul Harris recognition! Just let Kevin McCallum or George Wineinger know you'd like to contribute and they can make it easy for you! Thank you!
Please contact George Wineinger with any questions about the Rotarian Foundation.
