Summary Of Walk Two Moons

Walk Two Moons is about a girl named Salomanca Tree Hiddle who moved From her farm in Bybanks Kentucky to Euclid Ohio where she meets a girl named Phoebe, as they go through many adventures with eachother. She tells her grams and gramps all about them on a road trip from Euclid to Lewiston Idaho to see her mother.

Thesis Sentance

In the novel Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech , many characters are judged by Sal and Phoebe, but throughout the story the truth is uncovered.

Mrs. Cadaver

Sal and Phoebe believe that Mrs.Cadaver killed her late husband. (On page 32), Sal and Phoebe express these thoughts. "I have seen her chop down trees and lug the remains clear across her backyard. Do you know what I think? Phoebe said, I think maybe she killed Mr.Cadaver and chopped him up and buried him in the backyard." They also believed that Mr. Birkway helped kill him. "Then Mr.Birkway and Mrs.Cadaver gouged and prodded and tunneled around in the dirt until the poor old rhododendron flopped onto its side..." "Maybe there's something hidden under the bush" Phoebe said. "Like what?' "like Mr. Cadaver." (Page 86.) This shows that Sal and Phoebe believe that her gardening is a sign that Mrs.Cadaver could have killed her husband and buried him under the flower bush. The truth is that he was not in fact under the bush or anywhere in her garden for that matter. The truth to both was that Mr.Cadaver was killied in a car accident and the only nurse on duty at the time was Mrs.Cadaver as she saw her husband die.

Mike Bickle

Mike Bickle was judged all throughout the book as a mysterious lunatic.

(Page 51 & 52).

"Dont judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasin..."

"For me?" Phoebe said "I don't think so."

'Well who is it for?" Mrs Winterbottom said.

She was awfully worried. I believe she thought it came from the potential lunatic.

The Winterbottoms were getting many mysterious notes around the same time as the lunatic was saw around the family as well so they just assumed and judged that they were linked. As the story progressed you find out that the notes weren't ment to be scary or have a mean message infact they weren't linked with the lunatic. Mrs.Partrige was in fact the one leaving them on their door steps because she liked them and thought they were powerful. As for the lunatic he was still considered a threat the Phoebe and her family.

(Page 64,)

"Look quick, it's the lunatic."

"Where?"

"At the cash register."

"There's nobody there," Mary Lou said.

"Honest, he was there," Phoebe said. "I swear he was. Ask Sal."

"He was there," She said.

This shows that the girls are convinced he is bad even though they have very little information on him and in truth he is the son of Phoebe's mother in a different time in her life before Phoebe and the people she calls family now.

Mrs. Winterbottom.

The judgements about mrs.Winterbottom began after she left her family for a few days and than was seen kissing and sending affection towards a man. Who at this part of the story was the lunatic.

(Page 235)

"On the far said of the lawn I saw the back of two people,

a young man and an older woman.

They were holding hands.

She turned to him and kissed his cheek."

"Phoebe-" On the bench was Phoebe's mother,

and she was kissing the lunatic."

Phoebe did not want to believe it as she saw it. She knew in her mind that her mom had ran away to love him, but she just could not believe that the mother she knew would do that. In truth, her mother did not. Her mother was going to visit her son she put up for adoption before her life with Phoebe. He was not a threat he just wanted to see his mother the whole time and she left for a few days to see him.

(Page 247)

"Was she in love with mike?"

"He was awfully young-- not much older than Prudence."

As soon as she brings him home this is the first thing that pops into their minds before they know the truth of their relationship. It shows they expect the worse before they know all the information. So when she tells them he is her son their minds are puzzled as they tried so hard to convince themselves of that answer to the situation when it truly was not that answer.

Conclusion.

Through out Walk Two Moons there are many judgements made about situations, ideas and most importantly, characters. People like Mrs. Cadaver, Mike Bickle, and finally Mrs. Winterbottom. Even though many people are judged in life the truth always comes out no matter how crazy it may be. Most times the truth in life is different than what everyone suspects. And in Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech that shows and the how truth is so hard to change and is so important in life.
