From the Principal, Mrs. Alonzo
Dear Winfield Friends and Family,
We are embarking on something we've never done before--Distance Learning! We've been planning, preparing, and quite honestly fretting over the plans and instruction for your children. We want everything to run smoothly and perfectly. We are teachers!
We appreciate your PATIENCE, FLEXIBILITY, and GRACE over the next week as we deliver instructional activities for your children to complete at home. We are going to rely on your feedback and questions to make each day better than the last.
PLEASE, reach out at any time with concerns or questions. We (all staff members) are most easily reached via email at this time. You can reach me at jalonzo@cps.k12.in.us.
Boys and Girls, listen to Mrs. Alonzo's latest read alouds!

Much love,
Mrs. Jillian Alonzo

Hello to all!!! I sure do miss seeing all of our students each and every day. I hope this finds all of our families well during this time, as it is unknown territory for all of us. I am excited that I will be connecting with students on eLearning days with videos and activities!
Daily routines as we knew them, have been completely flipped upside down. As eLearning days begin, I know this will bring yet another change for all of us. With the uncertainty of our day to day, not having control over a lot of our “normal” activities; our children not only hear the stress around them right now-they can feel it. Over the coming weeks, you might see an increase in behaviors and strong emotions. It might be feelings of worry, anger, and not understanding why they can’t do all the things they love. This is normal and expected under these circumstances. Take the time to validate their feelings, and help them to understand them.
I wanted to share that I am available to help and lend a listening ear for our families and students. Please reach out if there is a need or concern that I can assist with, I have compiled a list of community resources. I will be touching base with families through email, and when needed via phone. Do not hesitate to have students send me a message as well, I would love to hear from them!
Here are a few COVID-19 resources to help facilitate conversations with your children, whether it is to increase their awareness (for the ones asking a lot of questions) or to ease their worries:

Another great resource for families right now:
-Free online Mindfulness classes. Tune in every Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 12pm. https://www.mindfulschools.org/free-online-mindfulness-class-for-kids/
Please continue to complete the family check-in survey each week, we love hearing and connecting with all of you. Again, you are not alone; we are in this together. Sending lots of LOVE to all of our families!
Positive Behavior Coach, Mrs. Adams
Dear Winfield Kindergarteners, First graders, and Second graders -
I wanted to send you a little note to let you know I am thinking about you all every day and missing you (and your hugs) SO MUCH! We will be back together again having fun with our Second Step lessons, but until then, you will soon receive a link from your teacher with a Second Step video from me. The video may even include two special guests! I will continue to make Second Step videos for you until we return to school. Keep practicing your emotion management skills and look forward to learning all about problem solving skills!
While my family and I have been home these last couple weeks, we have been busy watching movies, reading books, playing games, and having camp outs in our family room. Besides all that, we celebrated my son Luke's 13th birthday! You can see from the picture that he was really excited about his raspberry and white chocolate cake. Lilly is also having fun! She learned how to make pizza dough then night we decided to make homemade pizzas. You can see from the picture with her Grammy that she is busy sprinkling cheese on her pizza!
Something else we are enjoying while at home is watching videos of different celebrities reading children's books. If that is something that sounds fun to you, and you also think space and astronauts are cool, you should check out Story Time in Space from the Global Space Education Foundation. Astronauts on various missions in space read popular children's books while floating about! If you need help, ask an adult to use the dropdown in the link below, select "story time videos", and then you can choose the book that interests you.

Please stay safe and healthy, and keep up with your schoolwork. I am so very proud of you all, and I can't wait to see you soon.
Love,
Mrs. Adams
