What are we learning???

ELA:

After break, we promptly began or third and final essay. This last bend of our unit, we will be comparing and contrasting themes in literature. The first two days, we sharpened our compare/contrast skills by writing a quick essay about two objects, places, etc. Today, students began the challenging work of choosing and brainstorming the themes of two books/stories. We will be working on these essays for another week and a half. Once we're about to publish, each student will choose one of his/her essays to take through the final publishing phase. We will be celebrating all that the writers have accomplished on our celebration day, January 21st.

In reading, we have continued our in-depth study of the popular novel Bud, Not Buddy. Students have learned the power of word choice and tone that author's use to communicate a message. We are now better equipped to take this skill into our own books as we read.

Math:

We kicked off Unit 4 on Monday with the pretest and are well underway with reviewing our fraction skills. This unit will be covering simplifying fractions, finding equivalent fractions, adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions, and converting between fractions, decimals, and percents. The test for unit 4 is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 27th.

Science:

We have taken this week to familiarize ourselves with density, volume, and mass. There will be a brief quiz on Monday. On Tuesday, we will be stepping away from our Chemistry Unit to explore how infections are spread. More on this unit to come!

Happy Birthday!
