Veteran's Day - November 11th
Care Package Display - Choose and organization (military, law enforcement, fire dept., etc.), and create a care package to give them! Think about what items you would like to include that would bring a smile to their faces!
4-H Club Exhibit - A club as a whole can come together to give back to those who serve our community! They could create care packages or write letters or thank you cards to send/give to a service organization.
Hastings Museum Pen Pal Program
Does your mail make you smile? The Hastings Museum believes that it should, and so does 4-H! The Morrill County Extension Office is helping spread the word about the Hastings Museum Pen Pal Program. This would be a great way to spruce up your snail mail and make someone else’s day. We also believe there could be a 4-H exhibit or two in the future based on this project. To learn more about the program, visit https://hastingsmuseum.org/penpal-program/.
Catch-a-Calf Program - Changes for 2021
Late September, the NWSS Board of Directors made the decision to postpone the 2021 NWSS in January to 2022 due to current COVID restrictions. Many of the Breed Association Shows are moving to other location, but the 2020-21 NWSS Catch-A-Calf Show is being planned as a stand alone show for 2021 with more details to come soon.
The application process for the 21-22 NWSS CAC Program will look different this year. The application deadline is being pushed back into January. As of right now, the website used for the application is currently down, but will hopefully be back up soon!
If you are interested in taking part in the Catch-a-Calf program, email your name, phone number, and email to Katlyn at krosas2@unl.edu!
Next Chapter
Next Chapter at Nebraska is a college and career readiness program designed for high school students. Scholars will engage in events, activities, and curriculum where they will participate in exploring future career possibilities, develop research skills, and experience a variety of learning techniques to help them transition to and succeed in college. Any 8th grade student enrolled in 4-H is automatically pre-admitted to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Students are not required to be enrolled in 4-H to participate in the program. Upon program completion and meeting admissions requirements, program participants can be fully admitted to the University. Fee waivers exist for those planning to pursue a degree at UNL.
This program is provided in a variety of settings by trained Nebraska Extension—4-H Educators across the state including classroom settings, regional retreats, community 4-H clubs, and online.
If you/your child is interested, please sign up through the link and an educator will be in contact with you shortly about potential options in your area.
Nebraska Fed Steer Challenge 2021 - December 1st
The goal of the Fed Steer Challenge is to enhance the educational value of the traditional 4-H beef projects by providing an affordable option that rewards production merit and carcass value of the market animal, along with accurate and complete record-keeping, industry knowledge, and producer engagement by the 4-H member.
