End of the Year News

It's hard to believe that it is the end of the year. As much as I enjoy the summer, the end of each school year is bittersweet. Your children have become my children and it is always sad to see them go. However, it always brings me joy when I think about how much they have learned and grown.

Testing is OVER!

We survived the STAAR Test. Students worked very hard during our test days. Keep an eye out for results towards the end of the year. If they are not in your child's report card (coming on the last day of school) they will be mailed to you.

Reader's Workshop & Writer's Workshop

Between Mr. Parr & Mrs. Anderson, we are reading aloud Jerry Spinelli's Maniac Magee. Students love this author because he writes about real life issues from the point of view of adolescents. Maniac Magee's theme is about home, and treating others with kindness and respect without regards to race or background.

Our writer's have been working hard the last two weeks on a secret surprise for Mother's Day. Hope you all enjoy your day!

Thursday May 14- Going to the pool!

On Thursday, May 14th , the fourth grade will be going to Adamson Lagoon for our end of the year swimming party. After we swim, we will eat a picnic lunch at Bee Creek Park. We have reserved the pool for our fourth grade students from 10-12 and the covered pavilion from 12-2.

Your student must wear their swimsuit to school under their clothe. Girls are required to wear a one piece swimsuit (or a tankini). We will be going to CAMP in the morning before we leave, so please wear tennis shoes to school.

The life guards will require students to be able to pass a swim test in order to swim in the deep end without a life jacket. They need to be able to swim the width of the shallow end without stopping and putting their feet down. They may stop at the far end of the pool before swimming back.

When we return, the students will be given time to change into other clothes if needed. Here are some items that you may wish to send to school:

  • Sunscreen
  • Towel
  • Extra Clothes
  • Sack lunch and drink or two

Please email your child's homeroom teacher if your child cannot swim, thank you.

Fourth Grade Picnic May 27

On Wednesday May 27th we will be having our end of the year party with a picnic lunch and our annual water balloon fight. We are asking each child to bring $3 to help pay for food. We will have our water balloon fight soon after lunch. Please send kids with their swim suits on under clothes and a change of clothes as well. It would be a good idea to send a towel and sunscreen as well.

I am in need of water balloons. If you happen to see a pack at the grocery store or Walmart please send them this way.

I also need families to volunteer to fill up the water balloons. Please email me if you and your child are willing to fill up roughly 50-70 balloons. Wednesday morning, we will meet you with the gates open in the parent drop off line for you to drop off water balloons. We ask you to store them in a bucket, cooler, trash can, or even trash bag with some water in it. This is a fun event to come and watch.
