In the early 1900's many Immagrants landed and were processed at Ellis Island NY. Sweatshops were a source of income for families just coming to America. Cultural Pluralism was something they weren't use to at the time but adapted over time. Poverty wasn't looked at as a problem until Jacob Riss exposed the terible living conditions of many Americans.
