Principal's Message
I can't believe that it is already October! We are off to a great start and are in full learning mode! Students are now in a routine and are going strong!
I appreciate all the support as we focus on the success of all of our Dolphins. The home-school relationship is important to maintain. The foundation of this relationship is paramount and keeping those lines of communication open is essential.
I am a firm believer in the power of the growth mindset and approach each year with the belief that all our students are capable of learning and growth. What is a growth mindset? Simply put, it is the belief that intelligence and ability are not fixed traits or that we are born with only so much of them. Rather, with effort and perseverance, all students are capable of academic achievement.
Every day, we want to immerse our students in a growth mindset at Hairgrove. Our students will be asked to take educational risks. They will be praised for approaching the process of learning with grit and determination and they will grow in ways they never thought possible.
These messages cannot only come from the school, so I am writing this to ask for your help. How can you help? You can value growth and improvement in your home. I am asking families to be mindful of where their students start and how they progress over time. Continued progress, however incremental, is to be valued.
Here are some things you can do to extend and promote a growth mindset in your home:
- Encourage your child to take risks and tackle new challenges at school.
- Praise your child not for the ease with which he or she learns a concept but for the amount of effort put into learning it.
- Emphasize perseverance and effort in extracurricular activities. For example, “I’m proud of how much effort you put into that basketball game” instead of “I’m proud of how many points you scored in that basketball game.”
I hope you’ll commit to joining us on this growth-mindset journey. We cannot do it without parent support. Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to a working partnership and a successful year.
Sincerely,
Michelle Lee
Car Rider Note:
Our staff members will be outside in the morning to greet your children from 7:40 – 8:00 and will now be opening and closing your car door. At 8:00, they must go into the building to help start the instructional day. If you arrive after 8:00, you will need to park and walk your child into the building to sign them in to school. If your child needs to eat breakfast, please be sure that they arrive with enough time to eat. Breakfast is served from 7:40 – 8:00. While there may be circumstances that cause you to be in a rush in the morning, it is crucial that you stay in one lane of traffic and follow the traffic direction of our staff members. Our goal is to keep all of our students and staff members safe!
Our school day ends at 3:30. At that time, we will begin dismissal. Our staff members work as efficiently as they can to bring your child to your vehicle in the afternoon and they will be opening and closing your car door. You can help with speeding up the process of the afternoon car rider line by making sure your child knows their car rider number, having your car rider tag hanging from your rear view mirror when you enter the parking lot, and following the traffic direction of our staff members. At 3:50, all staff members will go inside and you will need to park and come into the front office to sign your child out from school. If this happens, be sure to have your ID with you. While there may be circumstances that cause you to be in a rush in the afternoon, it is crucial that you stay in one lane of traffic and follow the traffic direction of our staff members. Our goal is to keep all of our students and staff members safe!
Music Notes
Fourth and Fifth graders: Choir is off to a great start. They sound awesome and have already memorized one song. Plan on making it to all the rehearsals since we only have four more to learn the rest of our music, October 13, 27, November 10 and December 1 for our December 2nd program, Jingle Jam.
Anyone still wanting to be in choir can join in January for our next program.
Third graders: They sound fantastic as they continue learning songs for our program , America, which will be performed Tuesday, November 9 at 8:30a.m. and 6:00 p.m. We are practicing this music during our class time so there are no extra rehearsals. Please wear blue jeans and a red, white, or blue shirt for the program. You’ll look and sound so patriotic! Invite your family and friends to come and support you.
It's so wonderful to make music with you in our giant new music room. Keep up the fantastic learning!
Ms. Bassi

Hairgrove Emergency Drill Letter To Parents

Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s):
The safety and welfare of our students and staff is our highest priority. To provide schools an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures, our district Superintendent has asked all students and staff to participate in emergency preparedness drills on a continuous basis.
The goal of the training drills is to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, and reduce injuries. They allow us to evaluate our emergency operations plan and improve our response skills. As part of the drill, the students and staff will participate in the activation of our Emergency Operations Plan.
In order to protect students, in case of an actual emergency, students will only be released to the parents and/or other adults listed on the student’s Emergency Card. Please ensure that this card has updated and accurate information. It is a good idea to have several trusted adults listed on the card, including one or two who live within walking distance of school. You should assume that in an actual emergency, telephone communication may not be possible, and so you should discuss your family meeting place and reunification plans in advance with anyone listed on the student’s Emergency Card.
In the event of an actual emergency parent and/or guardian/adult will be directed by school or public officials to their child’s specific location via the district website or eNews alerts. The parent/guardian/adult shall bring valid government issued identification and should first come to the Reunification Parent Check-in Area. The adult’s identification will then be verified as eligible to reunite with the student using information on the student’s Emergency Card. The parent or guardian will give the students name by means of the bottom portion of the Reunification Card to a Reunifier. While the student is located, the adult will remain in the Parent Assembly Area until called upon to report to the Parent/Student Reunify area to meet their child. This procedure is designed for your child’s protection and for your peace of mind. The reunification process can be time-consuming, so parents are urged to be patient.
Please discuss your family’s home preparedness plan with your student(s). The American Red Cross has outstanding materials. You can obtain Family Disaster Preparedness Plan materials in English or in Spanish from their web site: http://www.redcross.org or by calling your local chapter. Additional drill and safety information can be located at https://www.cfisd.net/en/parents-students/safety/safety-resources/.The Harris County Office of Emergency Management also has valuable information on emergency preparedness, and there are resources to be discovered on the internet in many languages.
If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call our school office at (713) 896-5015.
Sincerely,
Michelle Lee, Principal at Hairgrove Elementary
