Rice Lake Monthly Professional Development

Wednesday, October 21, 2015, will be the first monthly system staff development session facilitated by Ryan Bisson. This session is intended for licensed staff members who monitor, track, and use student literacy intervention data. Ryan will share the progress monitoring that will be implemented using iCue as part of TSIS.

Check In, Check Out

Check In Check Out is a highly effective research-based Tier 2 Intervention for students who have failed to respond to general class management techniques and interventions. CICO has been used at RL for 4 years with much success. It has been proven to improve student behavior, organization, motivation and help them to self-monitor and correct behavior. CICO provides feedback and individualized adult support on a daily basis. Each CICO chart is personalized to meet the student’s behavior goals. Students meet at least twice a day with their carefully selected “checker” (who is not their classroom teacher). It provides feedback to the student and his/her family which in turn builds relationships. Rice Lake has been at the forefront of CICO in the district and our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) team will be happy to assist any teacher who has a student who needs CICO. Talk to Dan or KKB with any questions.

Turkey Bingo

It is always appreciated when staff members support PTO events and activities. Turkey Bingo is planned for Friday, November 13, 2015. If would greatly be appreciated if you find a way to support this event by promoting Turkey Bingo with your students and families, helping with set-up, signing up to be a Bingo caller or other assignment that night, or attending with your family! This is one of the most popular events for Rice Lake families and it is fun and very well organized.

We will soon be planning for Fall conferences scheduled for November 17, 19, and 23, 2015. I will again be asking for conference attendance data so please remember that as you are communicating and scheduling with families. We will use the online scheduling again this year and the district reminded me that if you are posting conference schedules near your door, only use students' first names and last initial. We will schedule twelve building hours leaving staff with three flex hours. If you held listening conferences, you may apply those hours to your flex time and/or leave early on scheduled conference nights as you are able. If you have questions about that, please see me.

Winter Wear

With winter on its way, this is a good time to remember we have jackets, hats, gloves, mittens, and boots for students and families that need those. You may see Amy Paton for support. Limited pairs of snow pants will be available for students to use on a daily basis and be returned but not kept permanently.
