Happy Friday Families!

What a crazy week of our School Family. The flu bug hit my family this week and I was out 3 days, The kiddos did superb with the sub and carried on our learning splendidly. I couldn't be prouder. Please give me through the weekend to respond to any questions sent via email.

Also, please make sure students bring a FULLY CHARGED IPAD to school daily. We will begin to use these tools on a regular basis.

We would like to honor grandparents on Friday, September 30th by inviting them to TCE for a special Grandparent’s Day! The event will take place from 9:10-11:35, with each grade level hosting a specific time slot. During this special visit, the grandparents will get a chance to see your child’s classroom and do some memorable activities with your child. Below is the timeline for the days’ activities.

MAKING THE GRADE IN THIRD GRADE

Students are making a shift from learning how to read to learning from their reading. There is an important transition in third grade to letter grades. In order for students to keep up with the rigor of third grade, they will need to take responsibility for good study habits.

Students should read for pleasure every night. We ask that they also regularly practice spelling and vocabulary words, and review math concepts.

Learning is fun! We encourage students to explore, experiment, wonder, create, and learn from mistakes. Thank you for supporting their curious natures and academic progresses from home.

Upcoming Academic Focus

Reading: Retelling/Synthesizing,Character Development, Creating a Reading Life, Beginning Daily 5 Choice Board (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work)

Math: , Rounding to the nearest ten, Working with a Number Line, Understanding Rounding, Review the difference between Place Value of a Number and Value of a Number

Spelling/Vocab Vocabulary week, quiz on Friday, Sept. 23rd

Writing: Draft Writing, Writing Leads and good endings in our stories, Understanding the Writing Conference, Reviewing the difference between a Watermelon Story and a Seed Story

Classroom Wish List

Our class would appreciate any Goldfish snack donations. We typically have between 8-12 students who forget to pack a snack. Thank you for your contribution.

Housekeeping

If something pressing, like a last minute dismissal change, comes up during the day, please be sure to contact the office. The third grade team has prep in the morning. Since we are busy with the students during the day, we often wont have another chance to look at email until after dismissing students.

As part of our commitment to professionalism, we strive to respond to weekday emails within 24 hours and weekend emails before the end of the day on Monday. If this time period has passed and you feel your email may have been overlooked by mistake, please feel free to follow up.

NWEA

Students in grades K-6 just completed taking the beginning of the year Northwest Evaluation Association’s (NWEA) assessment. These tests determine your child’s instructional level and measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of math and reading. Your child’s individual student report, reflecting this year’s beginning scores will go home next Friday.

Fall Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences this year at TCE will continue to be Student Led Conferences! Student Led Conferences are taking place in places like Noblesville, Nebraska, and even New Zealand! This is a movement that is taking place in the world – not just at TCE! These conferences allow your child to be an important part by having them share their accomplishments and help create goals for the year. Of course, if time is needed to speak just as adults, this time can be set.

Teachers will be sending out directions on Friday, September 23rd for parents to sign up electronically for a conference date between Monday, October 3rd and Wednesday, October 19th. We can’t wait to celebrate your child’s learning with you!
