Palmer High School
Principal's Post
Winter is here, but a break is near.
November is the month that comes and goes quickly. It’s the first winter month where we feel the effects of more darkness and less light. We are entering the final four weeks of the semester and between the light change and Thanksgiving break, final exams will be on student desks before we know it.
Our teacher cut-off date for late work will occur December 8th and finals will follow in the last week of the semester. It will all happen very rapidly and it’s a very crucial time of year for student engagement. This is particularly important for our struggling students. Please stay in constant contact with students about finishing the semester strongly.
Below you will find a copy of the final schedule.
Thoughts of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is my personal favorite holiday. It comes at a time when we all need a break and to be close to the ones we love. Sometimes the miles don't allow that but the spirit of the holiday is a time of reflection of thankfulness. I joke that it is the holiday of the four F's. Food, family, friends, and football. Those are my Thanksgiving traditions.
One of our family Thanksgiving traditions that we do is to go around the table and share what we are most thankful for. In that spirit, I will share that I am thankful for so much!
I am thankful for my family, for my job and the more than 50 caring, nurturing, and sometimes demanding educators that I have the pleasure of working with. I am thankful for our students. They are a diverse group of young adults that make Palmer unique in its own small town American way. I am thankful for this community of Palmer and the Mat-Su. I live in and love this community and all the greatness that it has to offer. The beauty and recreational opportunities that are here are amazing. I am thankful for the bounty of the land, the moose, salmon, and halibut that fill my freezer.
In a nutshell, I am thankful for the climate and culture that we have at Palmer High School and our community. I'm proud to be the Principal of Palmer High School, and I am extremely honored to have this role.
I hope you and yours all have a terrific Thanksgiving break.
Mr. Reid
