Secondary ELA Newsletter

January 2019

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great break and a successful first few days back with students. I'm excited to launch this new form of monthly communication for the secondary #PascoLiteracy team! My hope is that we can use this newsletter to share information, build community district-wide, and highlight the incredible things happening in secondary English classrooms in Pasco County Schools.

If you have information or a highlight you'd like me to share in an upcoming newsletter (or you're interested in being a guest columnist!), don't hesitate to reach out via email.

#PascoCantStopReading Winter Break Challenge

Thank you to everyone who participated in our #PascoCantStopReading challenge over winter break! We loved seeing everyone engaged in such awesome books! Congratulations to our secondary winner, Kelli Rapaport from CSRMS. Looking forward to our next challenge over spring break!

Learning Walks: Teacher Content PD Day 2

Thank you to all of the Day 1 Teacher Content PD participants who expressed interest in participating in Learning Walks for Day 2 of professional development. A draft schedule is being reviewed by principals this week and final logistics will be shared directly with those teachers participating very soon.

Celebrate Literacy Week

Celebrate Literacy Week is January 28-Feburay 1, 2019. The theme is Spreading Literacy, One View at a Time. With this theme in mind, we are encouraging all schools to participate in the Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! contest and encourage students to help spread the love of reading and the importance of literacy. Schools in each category (elementary, middle and high) are invited to compete in the YouTube video contest. Students from each school can create a school YouTube submission that communicates how they share literacy or the importance of reading in their lives.

Because the focus is on sharing a love for reading and getting the word out, submissions will be judged by the number of YouTube views. If your school chooses to participate, please send us a link to your video so that we can share it widely to increase the number of views each video receives!

For more information about ways to participate in Celebrate Literacy Week, see below.
