Scottsville's Tuesday Tiger Times
FRIDAY edition - November 3, 2023
REMINDERS: No School Monday and Tuesday
- Monday is a division-wide conference day for ALL ACPS staff called, "Making Connections." Our school building will be closed.
- Tuesday is Election Day so there is no school for students. We also will NOT have a Tiger Tones or Tuesday Tiger Times next week.
- Wednesday is the 50th day of school so students and staff are invited to dress in 50s gear.
PTO's Month of Movement!!
Students had a BLAST at Wednesday's Dance Party. It was special for entire grade levels to be together. Students also enjoyed teaching each other new dance moves!
As of today, PTO has $1349 in pledges - $1000 already paid up! Please spread the word and help us meet our goal.
Everyday Matters, Every Moment Counts
Every Day Matters, Every Moment Counts has become an important theme for ACPS this year. Across the country, student attendance at school is a serious concern. Research clearly shows that the more often a child is absent from school, the greater the possibility that his or her grades will decline, relationships with teachers and classmates will suffer and a child will have less enthusiasm for education.
We wanted all families to know that attendance letters are sent out to families at the following times:
- 3 days total absences or 3 tardies in a month
- 5 days total absences ; at this point you'll be invited to school for a conversation so we can support your family getting to school on time
- 7 days total absences ; at this point having a signed attendance plan on file is required.
- 10 days total absences : we may need to refer the family to the district office. We want to avoid having to have any truancy conversations with a court.
We know that there are always extenuating family circumstances and having open conversations and letting us support you is what we want to do!
We want this to be the best year your child has ever had in school and we want to work closely with you to ensure they are excited, eager and joyful in being part of our community.
Call Principal Wells with any questions.
Talent Show - Wednesday at 6:00pm
Lessons Learned without phones and internet this morning
As you know, this morning our school and Walton didn't have any internet or phone service due to a fiber cable that was cut. We took the opportunity without phones and internet to talk to the students about land lines and how school looked different in the past.
Children made us laugh - asking about "way back when" and comparing "landlines" to "talking with cans and strings." Please ask your child about their teacher's creative pivoting of lessons this morning; teachers pulled out activities and games that we used to do more often. Kindergarten students learned to code BeeBots and took part in the electoral process voting for their favorite type of cookie!
This outage also gave us an opportunity to check our emergency protocols - we are in great shape!
