Sonya Conner Memorial Lecture: November 19th, 2019- 1-2:30pm, Sheehan Hall
Name: Jason Grant
Email: jgrant@worcester.edu
Sonya Conner Memorial Lecture:
Community and Youth Activism
Dr. Sonya Conner joined the Department of Sociology in the Fall 2011 semester from the University of Oklahoma. Sadly, Dr. Conner lost her life to cancer on June 17, 2018.
During her too-brief time as a member of the department, Dr. Conner left an inspiring legacy and a deep impact on all who knew her.
As a feminist and antiracist sociologist, she dedicated her teaching, her research, and her service to working for social justice and to fostering community activists focused on making the world a better and more just place.
As a public sociologist, she served as a community activist and organizer in the city of Worcester, working especially for racial and gender justice. As the founder of Communities United Collective, she is remembered as a skilled organizer and "one of the bravest people they know".
The Sociology Department invites you to an afternoon set aside for a lecture and discussion organized in her honor. The lecture seeks to honor her legacy by lifting up the voices of community and youth activists who like Dr. Conner are working to make the world a better place.

You will see during this free training that there are many things you can do. You have many advantages that you don't even know about. Even a basic understanding and education in this area can save lives. Join us Thursday, November 14th in the Student Center Foster Room (room 318) from 10am to 11:30am to make your plan.
