Yoga Family Night
Thank you to all those families who joined us Wednesday week for pizza and yoga. We practiced different poses to learn ways to manage our emotions. Some poses help stimulate us, others help us to calm down. This was great community time together, and with the contributions earned, I hope to offer another evening session later in the year. Our students have already had one session with Ms. Dance where she introduced/reviewed poses and rationale for using yoga. We'll schedule another session for students in November or December. In every classroom there is a calming corner with pictures of yoga poses students can use to help them. Stay tuned for another evening yoga community session!
Parent-Teacher Conferences Nov. 7, 8, 9
Please be sure that you've returned the conference sheet with times that you're available to meet with your child's teacher. This is a valuable opportunity for you to talk about your most valuable asset, your child! The conference allows you to hear about how your child is progressing behaviorally, socially, and academically, and for you to ask questions about any concerns you may have. We value this time and hope to meet with every one of you! Our School Counselor, Interventionists, and Specials teachers will also be available. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact the front office @240-236-0900. Remember conferences are:
Wed./Thurs. Nov. 7-8 from 4-7:30 PM
Fri. Nov. 9 from 12:30-3:30 PM
Volunteering
We are well into the school year with routines up and running and would appreciate your help. We hope you'll consider volunteering your time to help in the classroom or around the school (in the media center, during recess, in the cafeteria). In order to volunteer, you have to complete our security training next Friday at TPS (refer to calendar below). An interest form was sent home in the Thursday folder for you to share days/times you are available for volunteering. Please call the front office and ask for Jenny Reynolds if you have any questions.
Building Upgrades at TES!
In case you've heard that there have been a lot of workers in the building, TES is getting a makeover! As you know, it's a very old building and FCPS is focused on promoting energy efficiency. Our boilers are being replaced as well as our lighting and water faucets in an effort to improve efficiency and learning conditions. This is an extensive process that will extend beyond the school year. We welcome these improvements to our building! In addition, to meet standards for drinking water, FCPS has started testing for lead in all schools. There will be signs posted in every school on those faucets that should not be used for drinking water, and remediation if needed.
Assistance with Meals
Please be sure to complete the free and reduced meals application if you need help. We have a staff member designated to provide you assistance if you're having difficulty completing the application. Call the front office and ask for Liz Morgan and she'll be glad to assist you!
