Family Engagement Survey…
Paddock Road strives to involve families and seek input in many different areas. A part of our plan to work toward collecting that input at Paddock Road is to determine areas of greatest need regarding family engagement, PBiS, and communication. In order to accomplish this goal, we are asking all families to complete a survey that will provide our leadership team valuable feedback to assess Paddock Road's current reality and support planning next steps. Please use the link below to complete the survey. There will also be stations set up near classrooms during conferences for any families who wish to complete the survey at that time. Thank you for participating!

Battle of the Books
GOOD LUCK to all students participating in the Battle of the Books!
The Battle will be held Saturday, March 21, at 8 a.m., at the Westside Middle School.
All ten elementary schools will be represented--for a total of 60 teams comprised of 260 4th-6th graders.
Since last summer and fall, students have been busy reading the ten Nebraska Golden Sower Chapter Book nominees and meeting with their teams to discuss the books.
Thank you to the many parents, librarians, teachers, and other staff who have encouraged students to participate in this quiz-bowl style competition that celebrates reading and fosters team spirit.
The Battle is sponsored by the Westside Community Council. You can find more details on the Battle of the Books website:
https://sites.google.com/view/westsidebotb
The Battle of the Books requires nearly 100 volunteers! Please consider giving your time to help make this event a success:

Getting Better Sleep
Although it can be challenging with busy work/ activity schedules to accomplish, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) suggest that children between the ages of 6-12 need 10-11 hours of sleep a night. It is also recommended that consistent bedtime routines be established and maintained. Below are some tips from the Nationwide Children’s Hospital to help ensure that your child is getting enough sleep every night.
- Routine schedule: Try to consistently encourage your child to wake up and fall asleep at the same time every day.
- Maintain a consistent routine: things to maybe include in a routine can be a light snack, bath time, brushing teeth, book/ story
- Creating a soothing environment: Help to make your child’s room dark, cool, comfortable, and quiet.
- Set limits: Make a rule for no electronics (TV, games, phones, ipads, etc) and set a limit for when lights will be turned off
- Avoid caffeine: Caffeine is a stimulant and can be found in sodas, coffee drinks, tea, and chocolate. Avoid caffeinated items before bed.
- Be alert for Abnormalities: Contact your child’s physician if your child experiences snoring, night waking, or has a consistently difficult time falling asleep.

Staffing Update…
I have a few more staffing updates to pass along for the 2020-2021 school year. We are excited to announce that Mr. Rick Painter will be joining our staff next year as school counselor. Mr. Painter will be in the building a couple of days next week to shadow Mrs. Lieske and get to meet some of our students.
Additionally, Mrs. Lusero has announced that she has accepted a teaching position in another district. While we are sad to see her leave, we want to wish her the best in her next adventure! Please help me thank her for all she has done to serve our students here at Paddock Road! With this change, I wanted to announce that Mrs. Young will be moving to 3rd grade next year to replace Mrs. Lusero. Finally, we are excited to announce that Hannah Miskimins has accepted the teaching position now open in 4th grade. Hannah has served as an educational assistant in our building, and most recently working as a long-term guest teacher in 4th grade. We are exciting for her to join our team!
