Reading

This week in reading, we will continue our focus on comprehension by studying non-fiction texts. So far, students have learned to determine importance and paraphrase information they read in non-fiction texts. Students have learned how to keep track of and organize the new information they are reading by taking notes. This week we will focus on retelling using key details from the text.

Please read nightly with your child. Even 20 minutes a day can make a huge difference in your child. Allow them to read independently, aloud to you, or even to a pet or stuffed animal. There is no right or wrong way to read! Your student has a book baggie each week that will provide a variety of books for them to read. Make it a priority and it will make a difference!

Writing

In writing, we have kicked off our newest unit on Informational Writing. Students are full of information on interesting topics and can hardly wait to put their knowledge on paper. This week we will learn to tell information across fingers, anticipate our readers' questions, teach using pictures, and begin using fancy words! We are ecstatic about the progress our little authors are showing!

Math

In math, we are continuing to learn about numbers to 40. Students are learning to recognize tens and ones and to locate numbers on the 100 grid. The 100 grid is an excellent tool for counting on and counting back.
