Exposing the Darkness

Muckraking, Journalists and Investigators would go into the ill, run down and horrible places around their city and would expose the light to the darkness. They would get photo evidence at night using a method to get a flash in the room so you could see what was hidden by the dark of the night. Photo evidence of illness, problems and they did this to make change and be a helping hand to improve and rebuild their community. They did it for the greater good for the people.

One of the problems solved by muckraking was indoor plumbing. Back in the day everything was outdoor plumbing, and with over thousands of people in one little area all going to the bathroom and what not outside all the feces and bacteria were getting into the air and passing around illnesses and diseases and it would spread through areas like a wild fire and everyone would get sick so we needed every house to have indoor plumbing to stop this, and with the power of muckraking we did it. Everyone started to use indoor plumbing and then the problem was solved. It also solved the meat scandal and under age working problems.

Political cartoons, were always made about president Roosevelt and the way he ran the military and the way he ran the United States, and about him and Taft. He was a very good president and it was odd how he treated the elections to stay in for another term because back then they didn't have the rule that you could only run two terms for president so he could have kept running for president but he didn't he treated his final reelection very weird, but while he was president he ran a pretty confident ship literally. At one point Japan and the United States had a little beef and battles were in the talks but, Roosevelt decided send over 4 squadrons of our finest battleships to 20 ports including Japan just to basically warn them not to mess with us. So that is what the political cartoon below is about it is Roosevelt parading off with his 4 squadrons of battleships in one hand and a big stick in the other!

Word Twisting or Lying?

Yellow Journalism, word twisting, stretching the truth, and lying in the paper to make a juicier story! Journalists would not lie so much in the paper it was more adding false news over exaggerating on things but they are just trying to make the story more interesting so more and more people read about it and so that they get more publicity. The picture below is yellow journalism, in the picture of the blindfolded man facing the firing squad. This was an add in a WWI newspaper, it was about a enemy spy being captured and being executed. This photo was staged, the man who was blind folded set up the whole thing just for the paper and he also staged many other photos just like this one.

Change your mind yet?

Propaganda, propaganda is using negative messages to change someones opinion on an idea, race, country, religion and it would be a negative message that mainly wasn't true but sometimes they were, but it was not normal for them to be true. during WWI propaganda was used a lot to persuade people and to change our way of viewing things, especially when it came down to who would fight against who and who you would be allied with and stand next to during your battles. Propaganda was basically to just send around hate and to promote your country and the war our men were fighting in. A big propaganda promotion in the united states during WWI was Uncle Sam and his famous quote "I Want You" Uncle Sam started in WWI and is still used a lot to this day for just about anything you can think of. Propaganda is just a way to get support and to change opinions on what you believe in.

New weapon advancements in WWI

Throughout WWI everything was changing, weapons, vehicles, tactics, and new areas were being taken over. The face of war was being changed everyday, everything was becoming more and more advanced! Old rifles were being dominated by the machine guns that could pump out 100's of rounds a minute and the normal rifles couldn't compare. Another advancement in WWI was the tank, an armored vehicle that could shoot missiles and could cross deep into the enemy territories and could wipe out a whole bunker of troops in the blink of an eye. They weren't indestructible but they were pretty close, they were hard to destroy, only missiles, rocket launchers, and grenades could take down these machines of mass destruction. These were only two of the many advancements of WWI, there is still the flamethrower, poison gas, aircraft carriers, mounted planes and many other devices, weapons, technology and etc.
