CSD Superintendent Update
WEEK #29, April 1, 2022, Cambrian School District
Dear Cambrian Families,
It has been just over two weeks since the CDPH moved from mandated indoor masking to highly recommended. I am proud to report that all of our schools have transitioned with ease and maintain a positive and welcoming environment for all of our students. We continue to see a few COVID cases each week, but overall our cases have not increased.
To mitigate in-school transmission, a multi-layered strategy continues to be important, including but not limited to getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, staying home when sick, isolating if positive, getting tested, and optimizing indoor air quality.
As we transitioned to the group surveillance testing model recommended by CDPH, you have probably noticed some changes in our exposure communication. Notifications are sent to families whose child has shared the same indoor space for 15 minutes or more with a COVID positive person. Testing and watching for symptoms is highly recommended for students and staff who receive this notice. PCR tests, antigen tests and home tests are all acceptable.
SYMPTOMATIC STUDENTS
Students can return to school once their symptoms have resolved, they are fever-free for 24 hours (with no fever reducing medications) and have a negative COVID test. PCR, antigen, and at-home tests are all acceptable, Please use this form if taking an at-home test.
COVID AT HOME TESTS
Parents, please note: we have sent home a COVID test for each student. Please have your child take the test on Sunday, April 10th before returning to school after Spring Break, on Monday, April 11th. If the test is positive for COVID-19, please keep your child home and call your school office.
COVID CLINIC OPEN DURING SPRING BREAK
Our COVID Clinic will be open in the Cambrian School District Office Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

FANTASTIC DISTRICT EVENTS
Bravo to Farnham Elementary School for holding an incredible Science Fair this past Tuesday. There were 168 students participating with 16 judges, including School Board members, community members, Cambrian staff and parents. The students did not compete against each other; they earned points and were given ribbons based on individual performance. GREAT JOB, FARNHAM STUDENTS! A big thanks to the fifth grade team led by Jenna Greco for taking on such a wonderful event for our students.
Also, Bagby Elementary School held a wonderfully successful Fun Run on Friday, March 25th. TK-5 graders enjoyed a fantastic day of movement while fundraising for their school. Thank you Bagby HSC for a great event.
I hope each of you have a wonderful, fun-filled Spring Break next week and will return to class refreshed and recharged. We are so glad you are a part of the Cambrian School District!
SCHOOL BOARD OFFICE HOURS
Just a reminder that the next office hours for School Board members will be held week, Monday, April 11 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. @ Farnham Elementary School in the Library.
This is an opportunity for the School Board to provide a status update. Although the Board members will be at each particular school in the district for office hours, everyone from the district is welcome to attend at any of the locations during the scheduled office hours. There will be two Board members attending each of the office hours, which will be informal in nature. We hope to see you there!

PARENT INTEREST SURVEY: Independent Study Virtual School Program Option for 2022-23 School Year
The Cambrian School District would like to determine if district families have any interest in the option of an independent study virtual school program for the 2022-23 school year. This independent study virtual school program option would require that your child be educated daily through an online platform only.
At this time, we are not committing to offering an independent study virtual school program option for the 2022-23 school year nor are we asking you to commit, however, we just want to gauge if there are parents' interest.
We ask that you complete the survey ONLY if you are interested in an independent virtual learning option for the 2022-23 school year. Please answer the survey for the grade level(s) that your student(s) will be in NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.
This survey will close on Friday, April 22nd. CLICK HERE to complete the survey!

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL STUDENT CHECK-IN
In order to learn more about student experiences across the Cambrian School District, we have partnered with Kelvin Education this year to conduct district-wide student surveys for children in grades Pk-8. Through these surveys, the school will gain valuable information about the social-emotional needs of our students and the climate and culture of our schools. The results of these surveys help inform both school-based and district-wide initiatives to support the social and emotional health of our community.
Kelvin Education is a leader in the field of education data collection and analysis. Their surveys have been used by school districts across the country. The use of Kelvin Education’s research validated survey instruments and data management platform will provide us with comprehensive, user-friendly reports to inform programming to improve school climate and culture, students’ social emotional learning, and family and community engagement.
The survey gathers information on the following:
Student/Family Engagement: How involved are students/families with their schools?
Social-Emotional Learning: How do students perceive their development of social-emotional skills like self-management and resilience?
School Climate: How do you see the overall social and learning climate of the school?
Teacher/Student and Family Relationships: How strong is the social connection between teachers and students within and beyond school?
If you are interested in learning more about the research and findings that support these studies and data collection, please take a look at a recent brief from Penn State on The Integration of Two Approaches: School Climate and Social and Emotional Learning (It's not 'brief', but it is insightful.)
How will students take the Kelvin Education survey?
When: The survey will be administered between March 2022 and June 2022.
How: The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment is a Federal Law that requires us to notify parents ahead of time about the survey and give them the opportunity to review it in advance so they can let us know if they do not want their child to take part. A copy of the survey can be provided upon request. The opt-out will need to be provided to the school in writing.
We appreciate your time and attention to this, as well as your support as we look to understand the climate in our schools and how we can best benefit our students' social and emotional health.
If you have any questions about the survey, please don’t hesitate to contact your school site principal.
