PANTHER PROGRESS
April 2022 Issue 8
MESSAGE FROM ADMINISTRATION
Lincoln Family -
As we approach spring break, how will you find time to relax, reflect, and revive? Whether it's traveling somewhere, enjoying a refreshing "staycation," or finding time to do some of the activities you've been wanting to do with your children locally, it's imperative to take a "break." Even though the concept of "spring break" originated in the late 1930s, this school year 80+ years later has made this break well-deserved as we enter the home stretch. When we return back to school on Monday, April 25th, we will have 31 days left to stay the course, supporting your child's development both academically and socially, and continuing to partner with you towards every success attainable. "If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself." - Henry Ford
Together.
Much Lincoln Love!

SOCIAL MEDIA and PHONE IMPACT
Our children live in a technical age with access to internet, devices, and Smart phones; this can be a good thing and a challenging thing. Nearly all social networking sites only allow users aged 13 and over, this age limit has been dictated by US law through the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Parents have the ultimate say on when their child has access to this media, similar to a movie rating of G, PG, PG-13, etc.., but these accounts need monitored. Unfortunately, many students are on their phones excessively outside of school and receive access to inappropriate content through Snapchat, Facebook, Reels, Instagram, etc... Group chats through these social media platforms and group texts outside of school have been less than conducive to social engagement at school. It has also created concerns for students when they're in-person with the other students. For parents that have allowed their child to have a cell phone, we ask you to support the following:
- How much time is your child on their phone outside of school?
- How are they using their phone and are there apps provide opportunities for negative interactions?
- When your child goes to bed, is their phone charging in their room or somewhere else in the house? We recommend that phones are charged outside of their room so that students aren't tempted to be on their phone late rather than getting the recommended 10-12 hours of sleep they're supposed to be receiving.
- Have you read the content of the conversations within their phone?
We tell students that "their family must have thought that they were responsible enough to have a phone, but you also have to be responsible on how you use the phone."
Your support and monitoring of being a digital citizen is greatly appreciated as we have observed students' misuse impact their learning here at school. Big thanks!

April Updates
Courage is something celebrated in novels and movies, and often recognized in the everyday heroes around us. But what is courage actually? The counseling team has created a library of video lessons for April on the topic of courage. We want to support our Lincoln family to have the courage to finish the year strong. You can watch these videos with your child at our April SEL library . Who helps you be brave? Is there a time in your life that your overcame your fear to find success? Take time to share those important moments with your child to give them the courage they need to face challenges in their lives.
