Can we find 6 more minutes in the day?
Students who started the year as struggling readers but ended the year at or above benchmark each day read just six more minutes than struggling readers who did not meet benchmark. Struggling-to-successful third graders also read 100,448 more words and had 11 percent higher reading comprehension than their peers, while struggling-to-successful sixth graders read 230,422 more words and had 9 percent higher reading comprehension.
With this in mind, think of the possibilities if we could commit to just 6 more minutes a day outside of school to have a lifetime of impact. Please see the chart below for more information.

Snow wolves
With the early snow and cold temperatures, Rock River Elementary students have been on the prowl at recess playing "Snow Wolves"...when it is warm enough. If the temperature gets below 0, we have recess inside- 4 days this year so far!
This accounts for the windchill as well, which we monitor in the front office prior to all recesses.
