The Admirable Dalai Lama

Jamie Schmidt

Peace, nonviolence, democracy, and reconciliation

The Dalai Lama is a spiritual leader who fights for peace all over the world among world religions. He is especially admirable because he has recieved the nobel peace prize.

Ever since he was a little boy, the Dalai Lama had wanted to be and was destined to be the Dalai Lama. Other people describe the Dalai Lama as a man who is very helpful, and they look to him for guidance. The Dalai Lama is a nice person, he is trusted and looked up to by millions, and he fights for what is right without violence. I know this because mass amounts of people would not want to follow someone who is mean, not trusted, and fights with violence. Those kinds of leaders are destined for failure in the long run. Many people from around the world travel to some of the Dalai Lama's speeches on world religion problems and peace.

The Qualities of Leadership

Because the Dalai Lama is nice, people are willing to listen and follow him. The Dalai Lama gives everyone a chance to explain themselves, and he is slow to anger. In the future I hope to also be patient and slow to anger. By taking these traits, I can be a better person in society. I would want to follow the Dalai Lama because his leadership qualities are not aggressive. I would not want to follow an aggressive leader because I would not trust them. I might think that they were out to get me at any time. I think that the Dalai Lama's kind and trusting figure helps him receive more and more followers. I think that all leaders at least have to be kind to be effective. If you are not kind, then people would not want to follow you any more. Some of the major qualities that one would need to be a good leader would be kind, couragous, and smart.
