Gifted, Grade 5

with Mr. Horak (January 11-14)

Conversation Starters

The 5th grade gifted classes are beginning a new communication system to help parents start academic conversations with their children. We will begin sending home our learning goals for the week, to help parents talk about what we did for the day and week. This means no more “What did you do today?” with the response of “nothing much” or “I don’t remember.”

QUARTERLY ASSESSMENTS ARE TO BE COMPLETED

Math Fluency Checks

Students have completed quarter 2 math fluency checks in multiplication (2x2, 2X3, and 2X4 digit). Some students may be completing additional math multiplication practice if they scored below 70%. If your scholar has brought home a math fluency quiz to sign, please sign and return. Additionally, please have your young scholars practice the nightly math practice to be turned in the following morning. Students will practice the skills at home for the following 3 weeks. Thank you for your assistance.

What is Planet 3000?

Please have a conversation with your young scholar about what Planet 3000 is? We are currently studying planets, while reviewing animal adaptations, survival instincts, and defense mechanisms. Our newest activity is to create a fictitious, lab generated animal, that will survive a different planets climate, environment, and species located on the planet.
