Letter from Mrs. Engstrom
Dear Kasuun Families,
We are nearing the end of first quarter and most academic assessments are completed. We will use that data to determine "What I Need" (WIN) groups for students. During WIN, students receive targeted instruction or enrichment, based on their academic needs. These groups directly align with ASD's Board Goals and Guardrails. Click on the title below to learn more about the Anchorage School District School Board Strategic Plan. Your child's success is our top priority and we are here to support them!
Absences: To report your child's absence, call the Attendance Line before 9:30 am and leave a message. The number is: 349-9444 (press 1).
Attendance: Parents, I really appreciate you making the extra effort to ensure your child is on time to school (between 8:50 am - 9:00 am). In addition, scheduling appointments outside of your child's school day, provides them with the best opportunity to succeed socially, emotionally, and academically.
COVID Information: For more information about district COVID-19 planning and support click on the active link. Scroll down to see six new testing sites that are available for symptomatic and close contact, staff, students, and household members!
Winter Gear: There is a chill in the air and our Alaska mornings are a bit frosty. Please send your child to school with weather appropriate clothing (jackets, hats, gloves, and boots). Our students wait outside until 8:50 a.m. and that wait will feel much better with the proper gear.
Student Council: Kellie Ash (1st Grade) and Claudia Liebsch (4th Grade) are hosting Kasuun's Student Council. If your child is interested in joining, contact ash_kellie@asdk12.org and liebsch_claudia@asdk12.org for more information.
Yoga Kids: Mrs. Walker (Grade 3) The after-school yoga club for 2nd-6th grades started this week and we had over 25 students! There is such a high interest, Mrs. Walker will offer another session in the spring!
I have enjoyed meeting so many students and their families. Feel free to introduce yourself at pick up or drop off in the morning near the front of the building. I would love to meet you and connect you with your student.
I am delighted to serve as Kasuun's principal. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call or email me. My email address is: engstrom_korinne@asdk12.org and my phone number is: (907) 349-9444.
Kind regards,
Kori Engstrom
Principal

COVID Testing Sites for Symptomatic ASD Staff and Students and Household Members
Six ASD school sites are testing locations for symptomatic and close contact, staff,
students, and household members.
No appointment needed & convenient too!
Health Screening for students in grades K, 1, 2, 3, and 5.
Vision, hearing and growth screenings have started, and will continue October-December.
Photoscreening- December 3
Grades K, 1, 2, (and grade 3 if student did not pass distance vision screening)
A photoscreener is a device that gives an estimate of your child's refractive error (glasses problem), eye alignment, and pupil size.
Volunteers from the Lions Club will join us to complete this important check of our youngest students' eye health. Referrals for a visit with your eye care provider will be sent to parents of students that do not pass photoscreening.
Any student may receive vision, hearing, and growth screening at parent/guardian request. Please contact Nurse Linda if you have any questions or would like to schedule additional screening.
ASD is Symptom Free.
Pediatrics Anywhere
ASD schools now have access to telemedicine visits through PM Pediatrics. This is a convenient way for parents to connect with a healthcare provider, during a school nurse office visit, or from home, via video conference.
Registration with PM Pediatrics is required, using the PM Pediatric app, or their website:
https://pmpediatrics.com/pmpanywhere/ or QR code on the flyer: (see attached)
Please contact Nurse Linda at 742-8301 for more information.
