Kindness Rocks December 3rd in Capital's Main Gym
The City of Boise has adopted a new initiative called Boise Kind. The Capital High School Quadrant will join their efforts of spreading kindness throughout our community. On December 3rd, Capital will be hosting a kindness concert in the main Gymnasium with the theme being Kindness Rocks. The event will feature the Capital music department and a local band that will perform original music and cover songs. We will also have performances by The Capital Golden Girls and Cheer Team.
On December 3rd, we will be busing in all of the 3rd-6th grade students from our feeder elementary schools. Their concert will be from 10 am to 11 am with half of Capital’s student body joining the show. In the afternoon we will be busing Riverglen and Fairmont Jr. High to Capital. Their concert will be from 12:45 to 1:45 and will include the other half of Capital’s student body.
During the concert there will be messages of kindness, and ideas on other ways to promote kindness throughout our schools. We will have limited seating for parents. Please contact your home school if you are interested in attending. We can’t wait to share this event with our future Eagles.

Seniors:
Deadlines are becoming even more important at this time of year. Please check your colleges deadlines to make sure you know when your application and other materials need to be submitted.
January 1 is looming for some colleges. If this is one of your deadlines, know that no one is in the offices over Christmas so please make sure you have your January 1 requests (letters, transcripts, etc. completed BEFORE Christmas break).
Transcripts must be requested on Scoir!!!
Please remember that we need at least a day to complete the request for a transcript so plan accordingly with your request. In other words, a transcript does not get sent just because your requested it, our Registrar will complete the process by seeing your request and send the transcript to the receiving school.
Haven’t heard from your colleges?
Have you checked your personal email to see if your colleges have contacted you?
Students please make sure you are checking email to ensure all requests from your colleges have been fulfilled.
Still nothing? Call the admissions office of your college to see if they have your application on file and/or anything else that may be missing from your application file.
Get the FAFSA completed!! There’s still time!!
As of this writing (11/22) we have had 139 students complete the FAFSA (33% of the senior class). Last year by the end of the year we had 55% of our senior class who had completed a FAFSA. So while there is a long way to go to make that goal, there is plenty of time but don’t delay.
For our Idaho colleges, the next big deadline is February 15. BSU and ISU require the FAFSA and all admissions materials to be submitted by this date for scholarship purposes.
Don’t forget Scholarships on the Google Doc!
I currently have over 50 scholarships listed on this document. Please take some time to look through the list and consider applying for as many as you can. Remember, this is a live document and more scholarships will be added!!!
The OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP is especially important for seniors planning to attend college in Idaho. If you have a 2.7 cumulative GPA or higher make sure you complete this scholarship!

Sophomores and Juniors
PSAT SCORES:
Beginning Dec. 9, students will be able to access their PSAT scores online. Collegeboard will be releasing scores throughout the week. So, if your student can’t find their score, it could be that theirs will be released another day that week.
To access scores, students who already have a Collegeboard account will log in to see their scores.
Students who do not have a Collegeboard account will need to set up an account. Students should go to www.sat.org to set up an account. Please make sure you put your account information into your phone or somewhere that is easily accessible for future use!
Parents: I encourage you to allow your students to do this, please. This is an account that your student will need to access on a fairly regular basis and they need to have access! Students cannot have multiple accounts. This will cause many problems for them if more than one account is set up in their name!
Students are encouraged to link their PSAT scores to the Khan Academy which will help them study and prepare for the next PSAT in October 2019 (for sophomores) or the SAT that juniors will take in April of 2019.
Within the next week, I will be sending another link to a video that will explain the results of the PSAT. Students and parents seeing this video will understand there is more to the PSAT results than just numbers!
Juniors:
Mark your calendar...you will be taking the official SAT on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 during the school day. There is nothing you need to do to register for this test...just study! This score will be used for admissions and scholarship purposes.
College-bound juniors are encouraged to consider taking the ACT during the spring, as well. Juniors will need to register on their own and take the test on the national test days, Saturdays at www.actstudent.org. Families who qualify for Free/Reduced lunches can pick up a fee waiver in the Career Center before registering for the test.
Sophomores:
I am currently having English 10 classes come to the Career Center where I introduce sophomores to the Career Center and what I can do for them. I give a presentation to talk to them about the importance of education beyond high school…no matter what kind of education…apprenticeships, Career-Technical education, military, etc.
The next step we will take together is to complete a Career Interest Inventory at the end of January. My hope is to relate their inventory results with the classes they can register for next year.
Class Shirts
Student Council still has a few remaining senior class shirts and sophomore class shirts. They will be sold for $10 the week of December 3rd-7th at break and lunch in room 111. All 2022 (Sophomore) shirt sizes available, ONLY SMALL AND MEDIUM SHIRT SIZES AVAILABLE FOR 2020 (Senior Shirtt).
The Real CHS: Fight for the Freedom Flag
On December 13th, at 7:30pm our boys' basketball team will be facing Centennial at Centennial High School. We are trying to cultivate a "CHS" rivalry and it will be a spirit competition. Our dancers, cheerleaders, and band will all be part of the competition as well. Our students will be allowed into their gym after school to decorate and we will be making decorations at lunch in room 111 during the week leading up to the game. Students will be given free admission to the game with their activity card. We hope to have a big crowd of parents and students there.
Giving Tree for Winter Wishes
This year we are trying to grant as many "Winter Wishes" as we can. We have a Giving Tree in the main foyer and all Capital students and families are invited to participate in helping to fulfill these needs. Come grab an ornament with a list of items to buy so we can help out as many Capital students and families as possible. Thank you for making our Capital community a great place!!
