School resumes on April 9, 2018
PROM Updates:
- Prom is 4/20 at The Ice House in Louisville 8-11:30
- Guest permission slips are available in the office NOW and MUST be completed and turned in to the main office by April 13th (NO EXCEPTIONS)
- Students must attend school 4/20 until at least 11:30am. They may sign out then WITH A PARENT NOTE.
- Must not be on the LOP list.
Reading Gala Information for Seniors:
The Senior Reading Gala will be on Thursday, April 12th from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. The Reading Gala is a “Pathway to Graduation” project, and ALL seniors at Martha Layne Collins High School are expected to participate in this event. Participants in the Gala select from a list of book choices, check out the book from the MLCHS Library, and have about 6 weeks to read the book. On the afternoon of the Gala, all seniors meet in the MLCHS Library for refreshments, and then students will break into their book discussion groups. The Senior Reading Gala is a tradition at Collins High School, and is an event that is enjoyable and enriching for all participants. Book Selection Day will be on Friday, March 2nd , so all seniors should be at school in order to get the book of their choice. The boys soccer team will be holding open gym time on Monday's and Thursday's from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the West Middle gym.
All interested 8th-11th grade boys are invited to participate.
They should bring indoor soccer cleats or tennis shoes and enter through gym door 7.

Band Fundraiser:
Please join us on Sunday, April 15th from 2-4 pm for a Derby Hat Party. The event will take place in the brand new Wiche Pavillion in downtown Simpsonville.
Here are the details:
Tickets are $5.00 each. Your $5 ticket includes your admission to the party, a ticket for the door prizes, and a goodie bag. To make sure I have plenty, you will need to RSVP for a goodie bag.

Band students will also be hosting a bake sale that day. Each item (or bag of items) will be on sale for 2.00 each.
All proceeds from this event will be collected and donated to the Collins band program! We have set a goal of $1,500 to donate to the band. Please come on out, have bunches of fun, and support our kiddos!

Open House:
The Area Technology Center and Big Picture are hosting an Open House on Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 5:30-7 pm. All families are welcome to attend this event to learn more about these programs available to students of Shelby County Public Schools. You can contact the guidance office, after Spring Break, if you have questions about this event.
Job Opening:
Louisville City Saver is hiring! We are looking for a part time seasonal employee to work 25-30 hours per week. It pays an hourly rate and has a mileage allowance.
This person will help us sign up new local businesses for our awesome coupon book and smartphone app. They need to be a SELF STARTER, a good communicator and service oriented.

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WILL HELP YOU AS YOU PLAN FOR SENIOR ACTIVITIES DURING
THE LAST WEEKS OF SCHOOL. PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY.
1. Prom – Friday, April 20th at the Ice House, 226 East Washington Street, Louisville, KY 40202. Tickets are on sale
now and are $45 each. This includes a t-shirt. If you wish to bring a guest, permission forms are available in the main
office. These permission forms MUST be returned by April 13th, NO EXCEPTIONS.
2. Senior Exams – May 18th (periods 5, 7).
May 21st (periods 1, 3, 6).
May 23rd (periods 2, 4).
3. AP Exams – May 7th through May 18th.
4. Senior Clearance Sheet/Transition Survey - Complete clearance sheet and transition survey. These will be given to
you through your English class on May 14th. If you do not have an English class here at MLCHS, they will be
available in the main office. These will be turned in on May 24th after graduation practice. Clearance sheets and
transition surveys MUST be complete to receive cap, gown, and tickets.
5. Senior Awards Night – May 17th at 6:30pm in the Performing Arts Center. Local and institutional scholarships will
be presented at this time, as well as other awards. All seniors and guests are invited to attend.
6. Senior Breakfast – May 24th at 8:30am in the cafeteria. Special thanks to Hardees for making this breakfast possible!
7. Graduation Practice – May 24th 9-11:30am and May 25th 1:00-3:20pm. All seniors must be present at practice in
order to walk in the graduation ceremony.
8. Class Awards Day – May 25th 9-11:00am. At this time, seniors will be given honors, such as Valedictorian,
Salutatorian, Magna, Summa and Cum Laude.
9. Senior Luncheon - May 25th 11:30am-1:00pm in the small gym. Special thanks to Cattleman’s Roadhouse for
making this luncheon possible!
10. Caps/Gowns – These will be distributed May 24th after graduation practice. Remember that both the senior clearance
sheet and the transition survey must be complete in order to pick up your cap and gown. After you receive your
gown, please hang it in the bathroom at home (Dr. Ellison will explain).
Reading Gala News:
PARENTS, WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are requesting your assistance with serving refreshments and/or providing some refreshments for this event. We are relying on our school cafeteria to cater many of the items that we need, but the following is a list and approximate number of items needed from our parents.
30 2-liter soft drinks
4 cases of water
12 dozen cupcakes or Little Debbie/Hostess Cakes
8 large bags of candy
Please consider helping us by serving or donating items. Please respond to sharon.mudd@shelby.kyschools.us if you are able to help. We must know what you plan to bring ahead of time in order to make this a successful event.
Please send or deliver nonperishable items by Friday, March 23rd or earlier if you like.
Perishable items may be sent the morning of the Reading Gala (April 12th) or
from noon to 3:00pm on April 11th..

Blaze Pizza Now Hiring:
Blaze Pizza is now hiring at all three locations in St. Matthews, Middletown and the Paddock Shops (and soon to be our fourth location in Clarksville, Indiana!) We are also hiring for all positions including team members and shift leaders, part-time or full-time. We offer a starting wage of around $9 and hour (may increase with experience and availability).
