Principal Summer Message
Greetings parents,
Summer slip, also known as summer learning loss or the summer slide, is a phenomenon that occurs when students lose academic skills and knowledge gained during the previous school year due to a lack of academic engagement over the summer months. Research shows that students can lose up to two months of reading and math skills during the summer break, which can have a negative impact on their academic progress and success in the following school year.
To prevent summer slip and help your child maintain their academic progress, we have put together this resource guide for your child. We have purchased IXL Math for all 3rd to 8th grade students. Below you will find where and how to sign on. Students can utilize IXL on a computer, tablet, or cell phone. 1st & 2nd grade students will use iReady Math for Summer Enrichment.
To maintain and enhance your child's reading progress, students should be on iReady Reading at least 1 hour a week at a minimum. Additionally, we have incorporated Achieve3000 (3rd-8th grade), MyOn challenges, Sunshine State Young Readers List, and the Rays Reading Challenge.
By engaging in these activities, your child can not only prevent summer slip but also develop important learning skills and habits that can benefit them in the long run. Additionally, staying engaged in academic activities during the summer can help your child transition back to school more smoothly and confidently. We are looking forward to the greatest academic learning year your child has ever had.
Educationally yours,
Ovett O. Wilson, Ed.S.
