Conferences are Coming Up
This year conferences will be held November 21-23. This is a great opportunity to be able to develop cooperative relationships between teachers and parents and share information about your child.
Teachers are sending information and sign ups through ParentSquare. If you haven't activated your ParentSquare account please visit the web portal. Then, download the FREE ParentSquare app for iOS or Android.
Please remember that students will not attend school on conference days.
From the Nurse's Office
We have all heard the saying, "There is not bad weather, only poor clothing". As we move into the cold weather, please remember to dress your child appropriately for outdoor play. (Rain gear, warm jacket).
Spills, mud puddles and accidents can occur while at school. Please send a complete change of clothes with your child (regardless of grade). Label your child's clothes and put them in a ziploc bag to be kept in their backpack. If soiled clothes are sent home, please send a new set of clothes in a new bag.
Appropriate PE Shoes
In PE, safety is always first. Wearing the wrong shoes can impact a student’s safety/success during activities. Shoes like boots, can get in the way of simple activities like running, jumping, and stopping. We encourage students to bring a pair of tennis shoes in their backpack if wearing boots during wintertime. It is important for students to wear proper footwear in order to participate safely in class activities, and to be successful with those activities.
No Toys From Home at School
If a child brings a toy from home (other than when they have been authorized by the class teacher for in-class support), staff members will:
- Request that their parent take it home.
- If this is not possible, the child will be asked to put the toy away in their backpack.
- If the child is unable to leave the toy in their backpack then a staff member will ask the child to place the toy in a classroom spot (usually on the teacher's desk) until dismissal.
S.T.E.A.M. Night!
Come enjoy a fun evening of celebrating science, technology, engineering, art and math. Our PUD, Mukilteo of Mathnasium, and parent volunteers will be leading fun activities for the entire family. Also on display will be all the entries for the Reflections Art Contest. Interested in volunteering? We would love to have people help as greeters, facilitate pre-made activities, and help out at the snack station.

Art Docent Classroom Volunteers Needed!
To support arts education, the PTA sponsors a volunteer-run Art Docent program. We are currently looking for volunteers to teach pre-made art lessons in the classroom for the months of Feb, March, April, May.
Volunteer art docents teach one lesson per month. Training, lesson plans, and materials are provided. No prior art experience or background is necessary. All that is needed is a love of the arts and enthusiasm for working with kids! Sign-up here to volunteer:

Families, including siblings, should wait for their students in front of the school by the Flag Pole. Students will walk with their teacher from the classroom to bus/parent-pick up designated area.
It is important to keep the covered area clear.
Pets:
Pets are not allowed on the school grounds. This includes pets on leashes when dropping off or picking up students.
For safety purposes please keep the gated areas clear for bus pick-up and parent pick-up.
Thank you for your support!
Free Meals for all Students!
This year all children are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch. If your child has dietary restrictions, or you don’t want your child to eat the school-provided meals, please tell your child’s teacher. If you send lunch from home, please make sure your child can independently open all items and that you send healthy foods your child will eat.
Breakfast is served from 8:35-8:50 AM daily.
Lunch is served by grade level at their designated lunch time.
Attendance Matters
Did you know that just TWO absent days a month can make it harder for students to stay on track? Attendance matters for all of us at Columbia Elementary, and we need your help! If you need support, please call (425) 366-2600
If your student is absent, please contact the school 24 Hours attendance line at (425) 366-2605 to report absence.
Please include:
- Student First and Last Name
- Date of absence
- Reason for absence.
We will only return your call or voicemail if we have questions.
Any absence not specifically covered, such as family vacations or other extended absence, must have a Principal approved pre-arranged absence form in order to be excused. This form must be completed and submitted to the school office one week prior to the scheduled absence.
