Principal's Notes

Happy Mother's Day! I hope all of our school moms enjoyed time spent with their family today.

This past week was a busy one at SBS. Starting off with Poem in Your Pocket Day and the Level 3 Poetry Slam. The students and staff did a great job sharing their poems throughout the day. Drama Club wrapped up their production with a cast party and viewing of their performance. Spring pictures and our middle school enjoying Treetop Adventures on Friday.

As we look forward to this week the students will be preparing for the Spring Concert on Thursday night. This year's theme is Broadway! We are excited to have our concert back, and grateful for Cardinal Spellman High Schools willingness to host. The school's address is 738 Court Street, Brockton.

Saint Bridget students and families will be allowed to enter the Spellman Auditorium at 6:30 pm. Parents should escort their child(ren) to their seating section, look for their homeroom teachers. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm. We ask our families to honor the times, as set-up work will have to be done prior to 6:30 pm.

We ask that Parents and additional family members fill in the middle section of the auditorium first. Cardinal Spellman High School has installed a state-of-the-art sound system, so the students should be heard anywhere in the auditorium.

The children should dress up in Sunday best for the concert. Such as dresses for girls and a nice shirt and pants for the boys. Students should not wear jeans or sneakers.

We ask that no food be brought into the auditorium, as that is part of our agreement with the high school. The bathrooms are located one floor below the auditorium. Students should stay for the length of the show, as there is an entire school sing-along at the end of the concert.

All my best,

Matthew Collins

Teacher Spotlight - Spanish - Senora' Assiradoo

In Senora Assirado’s sixth grade Spanish, students are learning how to describe themselves using Spanish adjectives and opposites. In the beginning of class students needed to look at pictures and say in Spanish whether a character was being serio (serious), gracioso (silly), perezoso (lazy) or tradajador (hardworking). Then, students took turns describing themselves by telling something they like and something they dislike. Students would state Me gusta (I like)….. pero no me gusta (but I don’t like)….

Spanish is taught to all students K-8 via listening, speaking, reading, writing, cultural awareness and language. It begins with simple vocabulary and stories and continues to have increasing complexity with the goal of being prepared for high school Spanish courses. K-2 has one session per week. Grades 3-8 have Spanish twice per week. Experience in language provides children with a way to understand the world from a totally new perspective. It encourages them to embrace new customs and cultural traditions. There is added benefit, as languages support their sense of empathy and understanding towards others.
