Important Information
Math, Science, and Social Studies
We will begin working on our 4 facts in math fluency this week. This is where students begin to have more difficulty so please make sure they are working on these facts at home. Continue to work with your child on their math facts each night. The fact cards are in your child's pencil pouch. Also, continue to work on all previous facts: 2's, 10's, 5's, and 3's. We will have our accuracy check on the 4 facts next Friday.
Social Studies-Last week we began working on map skills for our first unit. This week we will work on the compass rose, hemispheres, latitude and longitude lines, and work on creating a physical map of Arkansas.
Reading, Writing, and Word Study
Reading--We will look at multiple sides of characters this week. We will also reflect on our work thus far and set goals for upcoming work. Students will be self-assessing their reading responses to compare to my assessments. We will work on answering questions using text based evidence, and we will focus on comprehension of stories. Reminder--all students are expected to have a "grade appropriate" book to read in class every day. (This means a chapter book or a longer non-fiction selection--not Where's Waldo or a joke book). We do classroom library check in and out each Tuesday and Friday, and each class has a weekly trip to the school library.
Writing--We will continue our drafting of our fiction stories. We will work on fleshing out the details, adding dialogue, knowing when to switch to a new paragraph, and we will review what makes a sentence complete.
