Medford School District Summer Activities: Student Expectations
The Medford School District (MSD) is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of all of its students. Athletics and activities are one avenue for student learning and connection, ALL are Learning and Learning is for ALL.
As we have experienced unprecedented times during this pandemic, extra-curricular activities stopped as priorities shifted to the safety of our students, staff, and community.
Now as we reopen our community, we want to restart activities for our students in the safest manner possible. You may not feel ready to send your student, and that is perfectly fine. This will be a gradual process. In this process, we will need cooperation and support by you and your student, as well as our staff and others who are involved. Please be patient with coaches and staff as we work through this.
The following guidelines were developed from the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) guidance, in accordance with the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education. They will be in place until further notice.
At this time, this means small group workouts, maintaining physical distancing, and limited sharing of equipment. No bodily contact is allowed. The OSAA has not made any decisions about fall sports and future competitions.
Guidelines:
All summer workouts are voluntary.
Students should stay home if they or any person in their household or community living spaces have any COVID-19 symptoms such as fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, and/or difficulty breathing. Students must remain home until 72 hours after their fever is gone (without use of fever-reducing medicine) and other symptoms are improving.
Students should not participate if they have been around a person who has COVID-19. Students should self-quarantine for at least fourteen days.
High-risk students or students who live with people who are high risk should consider not participating. These may include, but not be limited to, moderate to severe asthma, serious heart conditions, diabetes, immunocompromising conditions, taking immune weakening medications and/or severe obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 40 or higher).
Students will be screened prior to participation regarding their health, exposures, and travel outside of the state by questionnaire. You and your student will need to report any symptoms or exposures to the coach even if you are distancing yourself by not participating.
Students need to bring their own water bottle and hand sanitizer. Community water stations will not be utilized.
Students will follow the entrance and exit guidelines and not congregate in parking lots before or after the activity.
Students are encouraged, but not required, to wear a mask coming and going to the activity, when not actively participating (attending team meetings for example), and on the sidelines.
Students should wear their own appropriate workout clothing and should not share clothing. Individual clothing/towels should be washed and cleaned after every workout.
Cleaning procedures for shared equipment needs to be followed as directed by the coach and will be dictated by the different phases and changing guidelines as provided by the Jackson County Department of Health and other governing agencies.
Physical contact such as high-fives, fist bumps, and hugs are not allowed.
There will be restrictions that require students to work in smaller groups of not more than 10 and not intermix the groups. There is a limit of 50 people in an indoor facility with proper social distance and a limit of 100 outside with proper social distance.
It is recommended that students should wash their hands and shower after any workout.
Students who do not follow the guidelines will be asked to leave the activity and will need to meet with the coach before being allowed to participate in future activities.
Spectators for practices will not be allowed in order to restrict the number of people in a space.
Coaches and/or athletic directors will follow up with families regarding specific athletics and activities. In order to participate, families will need to fill out a waiver.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Respectfully,
MSD Athletic Directors and Coaches

Sinceramente,
Directores de Atléticos y Entrenadores de MSD
