Manhattan High School Update
February 2023
A Note from Mrs. Howells
Hello MHS students & families,
Well done to all of our scholars on a successful completion of the first semester. Students did an exceptional job and those earning honor roll recognition are posted below in this newsletter. Classes are well underway as we move into the second semester and the midterm of 3rd quarter will be Friday the 17th.
Many of our winter teams have completed, started, or will soon begin their post season tournaments. Congratulations to our Speech & Drama team on a very successful year and best of luck to all of our other teams as they enter their upcoming competitions! Students wishing to attend the post season tournaments as spectators should pick up permission forms at the High School office ASAP.
A few important dates to note for the month:
- STUCO Ski Day -- Wednesday the 15th (Student Council organized a Ski Day for any high school students wishing to hit the slopes of Bridger Bowl. Sign ups are now closed and lists finalized for participants. Have fun & be safe!)
- No School -- Monday the 20th
I hope this newsletter finds everyone staying warm and well. As always, a huge thanks for the support and encouragement you bring to the MHS community and our schools.
Go Tigers!
Letter from Superintendent Ayers:
Student Successes
Manhattan Rotary Student of the Month
Manhattan High School is proud to recognize some of our amazing students through the Manhattan Rotary Club Student of the Month. The following students have been selected to be the recipients of Manhattan Rotary's Student of the Month award. Students chosen for this recognition model qualities that truly reflect what it means to be a Tiger! They are kind and respectful, excel in academics, and are involved in activities beyond the classroom. This is recognition well deserved by our very own. Congratulations!
February - Dane Clements
Hey, I'm Dane, and throughout the years of school there have been large peaks and low valleys. School can be quite the challenge, but I have embraced that trial, and I am thankful for all the things that I have learned and all the friends I met along the journey. Through school I have found my greatest passions for the arts, creative writing, and literature.
Furthermore, school has provided many great opportunities to give back towards the community, though being a member of The National Honors Society. As a member, it is our job to deliver community service in whatever ways that we find. My favorite means to give back is through my current job, which is a helper at the after care program of our school. I help look out for the kids in the program, and it has been a great experience. Another amazing opportunity school has provided me is in Speech and Drama, where I became a state semifinalist.
In school, I have taken most of the college level classes available to me, maintaining straight A’s all throughout, as well as becoming a National Merit Semifinalist on the PSAT, and all of these are hopefully going to help me on my journey towards college. For me, that college is going to be University of Montana, where I will study art, and hopefully have minimal student loans. Beyond that I hope to land a job as a concept artist, character designer, or really anything that involves itself with the creative process. School has been a battle long fought, but victory is on the horizon, and beyond the future looks brighter than ever before.

- A huge thank you to Coaches Julie Frank and Becky Frank along with the Manhattan Speech & Drama team for the tremendous amount of effort and time they put into hosting the B/C State Speech, Drama, and Debate meet. It is greatly appreciated! Also, thank you to all of the volunteers who came to help judge events. The meet was a huge success because of all the individuals who pitched in!
