Updates and Opportunities
Greetings
Triton Parents and Guardians:
It's hard to believe, but we are about to arrive at the fist six-week grading period. Please make sure that you check in with your students about their progress and make contact with teachers/counselors if needed. Grades are due this Wednesday and students should receive their handheld cards next Tuesday. School has certainly been busy. I have had a chance to visit many of the classrooms and I enjoyed seeing the students engaged in many different activities and learning opportunities.
This past Friday, I dealt with a situation where students decided to do a "mosh pit" in the pavilion. We are able to break it up before it got bigger and the bell rang before we could talk to several students. I made it clear to the students that this type of behavior will not be tolerated as it could create a dangerous situation on campus. Please check in with your student and advise them to avoid running on campus. If you have any concerns, please let me know. I think the kids were trying to have fun, but they certainly were not prepared for the amount of students rushing to the event.
Today, I met with Ben from Traffic Engineering for the City of Chula Vista. Present at this meeting were parents, administration, a police officer and our campus supervisors, custodians. We observed traffic and looked at multiple options on campus. We are going to try several of the suggestions that were offered. Please have patience as we implement these new strategies after the Fall Break. I will be sending out information about the proposed pilot program to help alleviate traffic congestion. In addition, I will host two parent meetings to answer any questions that you might have. The first meeting will be at 9:00 AM in the library on September 6th as well as at 5:15 PM in the pavilion on September 7th (right before the Ipad presentation).
This week will be hot! Please plan accordingly. We will have more tables placed in the pavilion for shade and will open the indoor pavilion for additional cool spots. We have spoken to PE about the heat concerns as well and they will be limiting physical activities. If you have a child with special circumstances, please let us know. The district will also be advising us regarding the conditions. Tell your student to drink plenty of water! We will remind them as well.
Thanks again for all of your support. I hope to see at an ELM event soon!
