Topics of Interest
The iReady tools are resources that fit into our overall mathematics program. We will continue to support professional development around CGI for all teachers. I encourage all leaders to consider the following guiding principles related to math instruction. During our Triads, we will continue to build our collective understanding of high quality math teaching and learning.
- Opportunities for students to problem solve in collaborative groups
- The Standards for Mathematical Practice brought to life through student experiences
- Focus, Coherence, and Rigor
- Elements of Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI)
Resources to support our math thinking and learning:
- The CA Math Framework - The Front Matter and Introduction are a great reminder about the foundations of mathematical thinking
- What is CGI? A blog based on discussions with educators in the field
- What characterizes a CGI classroom?
- CGI research
- Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching (an excerpt from the professional book)

Know My Story/ Know Our Story -- 5 Facts about Us
- I have an 8-year-old son named Owen who is a third grader at Park Dale Lane this year. He is smart, funny, artistic, nerdy in the best way, and he is my best friend.
- Going to the beach is one of my favorite activities but I am afraid of the water because I was stung by a sting ray in La Jolla 15 years ago.
- I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Wildlife Conservation and spent 7 years working at a wildlife rehabilitation center.
- Even though it is cheesy, Benihanas is my favorite restaurant because I love their chicken fried rice and still get excited by the tricks that the chefs do.
- I love to travel and once trekked 2 days into the rainforests of Borneo so I could see the Proboscis Monkeys.
**When you are ready to share another glimpse into your story, send me your 5 facts and any pictures!**
