Lights! Camera! Readers!
Silver Springs is excited to embark on our 2018 March is Reading Month Adventure! We’ve planned some fun activities for this month long celebration of reading. Just a few of these activities are listed below. Please see the attached letter and calendar for more information:
Our annual March Reading Challenge begins on Thursday, March 1st and ends Tuesday, March 27th.
We want 100% participation! All students must read in order for us to meet our school goal of 200,000 total minutes and to help their class win a weekly grade level challenge, as well. All students will record their daily reading minutes on their weekly reading log starting Thursday, March 1 (see attached).
The grade level class with the most total minutes read at the end of the month will win a $20 gift certificate to purchase books for their classroom at the Spring Book Fair!
Students who met their weekly grade level minute goal will have their name thrown into a “hat” each Wednesday. Classroom teachers will draw a name at random to win a $5 coupon to be used at the Scholastic Book Fair in April!
We will “Celebrate Reading” each Friday this month - see the attached calendar for the activities.
Author Suzanne Lipshaw will share her love for writing with all our students on Wednesday, March 14th.
All students are invited to hear a few of our Silver Springs staff read their favorite books and enjoy some Milk and Cookies on Wednesday, March 21st from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Please fill out and return the RSVP attached (in the parent letter) as soon as possible, if you are planning to attend.
Silver Springs will be hosting a book exchange the week of March 5th-9th.
All students who read for March is Reading Month Challenge will receive a coupon for a free pizza from Pizza Cutter.

After-School Activities Student Pick-Up
We keep the main doors locked for safety. Kids Club families have key fobs so that they are able to come in and sign their student out of the program. Please don't follow someone into the building. Thank you for your understanding in putting student safety first and we appreciate your effort to follow these rules.
Supporting the The 7 Habits at home!
Habit 5– Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
What this means: Listen before you talk. In order to communicate effectively, we must first understand each other.
“I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings.”
“I try to see things from their viewpoints.”
“I listen to others without interrupting.”
“I am confident in voicing my ideas.”
“I look people in the eyes when talking.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Listen.
2. Put yourself in the other person’s place.
3. Notice a person’s body language, tone, and reflection in their voice.
Great Books for Habit #5-Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
