A Message from the Principal...
Dear friends,
This week I would like to highlight a strong instructional practice that Coach Tag experimented with based on his new learning surrounding blended learning and creating a flipped classroom. Logan is Tag’s focus student. Logan has an IEP and school is definitely not one of his favorite places to be. He sometimes struggles behaviorally. Despite his challenges, Tag sees potential in Logan and is working hard to build a positive relationship and ensure Logan feels connected to Twin Peaks.
Tag reached out to Patrick Fawcett who enlisted the help of a couple of his video tech students. Together, they created an instructional video demonstrating for other students the proper technique to use when passing and catching a football. The kids did an amazing job with this project, which is now posted on Tag’s MyConnect site and being used as a teaching tool to support other students. I had an opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of all the students involved and to thank them for their contribution to our school community.
I encourage you to take 2 minutes of your time to view the video. You will be glad you did.
Have a great week!
Kelly

ATTENDANCE
TAKING ATTENDANCE IS CRITICAL: As you may know, the district was faced with a potential audit finding for FY 17/18 in the amount of $30 million dollars. The auditors questioned all of the ADA for our district. In FY 18/19, the auditors made the following findings: 1. Attendance clerks are not retaining manual attendance rosters for substitutes; 2. Teachers are still not taking attendance daily; 3. Sites do not have alternate procedures to verify attendance when teachers do not submit daily/period attendance.
To be proactive in FY 19/20, finance will provide “missing attendance report” on a monthly basis to the Executive Directors of LSS. These reports will identify which certificated employee by date did not submit attendance in Synergy. We will reach out on a monthly basis via email to principals who need to follow up with teachers not taking attendance. In the meantime, please work with your attendance clerk to monitor attendance recording practices and also ensure subs are taking attendance.
