Halloween Happenings
Halloween at Sherwood
Celebrating Halloween is a long loved tradition at Sherwood School. While our celebration will look differently than in the past, we are still planning to acknowledge this fun day.
Students may wear costumes to school on Friday, October 29. Students’ costumes should be safely designed and age appropriate to allow for adequate vision and mobility. Face coverings that impact visibility or cover the face completely cannot be worn during the day or during the parade for safety reasons, and no toy weapons of any type will be allowed at school. Costumes should be age-appropriate and school appropriate. Please also keep in mind the emotional components of group costumes on the students not involved in that group. Please be considerate and inviting to any students eager to join a group costume, and have conversations at home about being respectful to other students. We want Halloween to be a fun day for all students, and we appreciate your collaboration! We are encouraging safe and responsible behavior during this time of year, both at school and in the community. Thanks for your cooperation!
While there will be no class parties for Halloween, we will have an outdoor parade around the school. Parents and friends are invited to view the parade that begins at 12:45pm. Every grade level will make a full lap around Sherwood. Therefore, you will see all of our students regardless of your viewing spot!
Students will parade outside, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the parade will not take place.
As a reminder, if students have been absent from instructional activities during the day, they may not participate in the parade.
Sherwood's Service Project on October 29th
On October 29th, Sherwood Elementary School will take part in a service activity in lieu of Halloween parties. To follow our Panda STARS themes we are working with an organization called "Dancing While Cancering- The Maddie Kramer Foundation." This is a local organization that helps bring joy to the inpatient hospital experience for children with cancer. In order to help brighten patients' spirits, our students will be writing encouraging letters to patients, putting together fun bedside craft kits and organizing any toys donated at our Fall Fest on October 23rd. Our Pandas are learning about the importance of showing compassion and kindness towards others and this is a very sweet and thoughtful way to give back and support patients at Lurie Children's Hospital. You can learn more about this organization by visiting: Dancing While Cancering- The Maddie Kramer Foundation.
Sherwood Pandas will still be celebrating Halloween throughout the week. As a reminder, the PTO is throwing a Fall Fest on October 23rd from 2-4 pm with fun Halloween activities, a DJ, Trunk or Treat and more! We encourage families to "Fall Back and Give Forward" by donating a new toy that we will be sending to Lurie through the Dancing While Cancering organization.
In addition, Room Parents will be notified soon about decorating classroom doors with a spooky Halloween theme. This will be done during lunch periods on Monday October 25th so students can enjoy the decor throughout the week. Lastly, there will be a Halloween parade on October 29th in the afternoon. This parade will be open to Sherwood families and will take place outside, pending weather.
