CVHS Blood Drive - record number of donors!
The Biomed Program would like to thank all who helped make this Fall’s Blood Drive a success. We had over 120 appointments which required some patience while waiting. In the end we had 84 successful blood donations. This was a record for Campo Verde. We hope to continue this streak and do as well in the February for our Spring Blood Drive.

Biomed Level 1 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff
Students from level 1 have an opportunity to participate in a leadership academy from Chick-Fil-A. They had their kick off on Monday October 22 where they were provided with a meal from Chick-Fil-A and packaged 30 essential items for troops along with writing a personal thank you card for their service. Once a month they will be introduced to a facet of being a great leader and by the end the year celebrate with a giving back to a service of others project.

Praise for our Concert Choir & Mr. Matt Flora!
Congratulations to the Campo Verde Concert Choir and Mr. Matt Flora! This last Friday we had a rare opportunity to have Morten Lauridsen work with both our CGCC Concert Choir and the Campo Verde Concert Choir. Morten Lauridsen is one of only 8 recipients of the National Medal of Arts awarded by the President of the United States. His compositions have had a huge impact on the world of choral music. During our workshop, Professor Lauridsen mentioned that our performance of his music was one of the best performances that he has heard. Thank you to your Campo Verde students for adding to this beautiful experience and for showing leadership, respect, and integrity! Under the influence and teaching of Matt Flora, Campo Verde is setting the bar high! It is evident that Mr. Flora cares deeply about the success of his students! Again, Congratulations to you and your school!
Sincerely,
Joseph Johnston

Exchange Students Meet World Language Coyotes
On Friday, October 5th, the 5 exchange students to Campo Verde presented themselves to the students in the World Language classes (American Sign Language, French, Japanese, and Spanish). Students were able to learn about similarities and differences between Campo Verde and high schools around the world as these 5 amazing young people shared their observations about their new homes.
Taiyo Imaizumi is a sophomore from Japan. He and Natsuki Oguma (also from Japan) wore their school uniforms from their homeland to show CVHS students what is typical there. Both students commented on the differences in the school day and student/teacher expectations. Taiyo also shared his appreciation for anime and manga. Natsuki, a senior, also shared her lifestyle in the countryside of Japan where she had access to fresh fruits and vegetables daily.
Caio Luque-Garcia is a senior from Ecuador. He is a Rotary International Exchange Student and has been studying English since the 6th grade. He misses the beach of his hometown, but appreciates the more relaxed rules of CVHS compared to his high school (where phones are not allowed at school at all). He plays soccer and basketball and hope to be able to play on a CVHS team this winter.
Cajsa Mortazavi is a junior from Sweden. She has been studying English since the 3rd grade and speaks it without even a trace of an accent. She is adjusting to a more regimented style of high school than in Sweden where students have more freedom of movement and fewer restrictions regarding time and dress codes. But she also shared that the Swedish people are very comfortable with American popular culture - she and her friends listen to mainly American music and watch American films regularly.
Dominika Plewinska is a junior from Poland. She is still adjusting to the extreme temperature change she encountered in coming to the hot desert of Arizona from the cool climate in Poland. She (like many of the other students) also explained how transportation is so very different - Poles cannot drive until they are 18 and most of the students use public transportation (city buses or subways) to get to and from school.
Campo students were interested in hearing about food, holiday celebrations and the daily life of these students from around the world and were also able to gather information on how they too could become summer, semester, or full-year exchange students. More information is also available from any of the world language teachers: Kathy Diggs, Sue Fry, Luz-Elena Homan, Joni Koehn, Robin Roginski, Shannon Rose, Sara Singleton, and Nilda Sosa.

Infinite Campus update
We wanted to let you know that Infinite Campus just came out with two new parent and student portal applications. The current/old portal application will still work for the end of this school year. Parents/Students can now download these from their mobile app stores. Logins will still be the same for students and parents like they always have. It just looks just a little different. All of the same functionality will still be there such as notifications for attendance, grades, messages and some additional features.
Below is a link to our support site document on how parents/students after downloading the application will be able to get into the apps.

The FAFSA is the form you need to fill out to apply for federal and state grants, loans, and work-study funds to help you pay for your child's college tuition. The form asks questions about your family's financial status to determine the amount of aid you qualify for. You must submit a FAFSA to receive any federal aid.
You can submit your FAFSA between October 1 and June 30 each year. However, each state and college may have their own, earlier deadlines, so be sure to add those to your calendar.
