For the Week of October 17, 2016

Thank you!

A big thank you to all the parents for your help on our first grade field trip. We all looked stunning in our new shirts and we had a great time! We are so glad the weather cooperated and we got to see and hear a jet show! Thank you again from all of first grade.

Student Led Conferences

Out student led conferences are coming in November. November 3rd is an early release day for the entire school. Please watch for a sign up genius link from your teacher. If you look and all the slots are filled, don't worry ,we will add times on other days. We will get everyone in! Thank you!

Fitness Force

Fitness force enrollment remains open. It is every Wednesday right after school until 3:45. If you are interested you may sign up online or we can send you a paper form. Each child needs to bring their own water bottle after October. The children need to stay hydrated!

In class this week.......

Language Arts- In reading we are continuing to build stamina, reading for longer periods of time and then checking for comprehension.

In writing we are discussing how to develop our ideas and grow as a writer.

We are learning alphabetization and parts of speech such as verbs and their tenses as well as adjectives. We are introducing expository vs. narrative texts.

Math- We are concluding our unit on number sense to 50 and reviewing concepts we have learned. We will begin problem solving with addition and subtraction.

Social Studies-We are beginning a new unit -Communities are Different in Different Places.

We are working on beginning map skills including direction words.

Science- We are beginning our study of soils,looking for differences and similarities and how each affects plant growth.
