IB Learner Profile Trait of the Month: PRINCIPLED

Big picture

Students who are PRINCIPLED have a sense of fairness and are honest with themselves and with others. They understand that sometimes there are rules, and they follow them. They have an understanding of moral reasoning.

How can parents help at home to develop students who are PRINCIPLED?

  • Involve your students in deciding on the rules for a game or activity. Then ensure that they stick to the rules that have been decided upon.
  • Encourage your students to play games that involve teams. Discuss with your students the qualities of a team player. What sort of person would they want on their team?
  • When your students win a game, insist that they are a well-mannered winner. They might thank their opponents or shake hands with them if it’s appropriate.
  • When playing a game, don’t change the rules or let your student win. Being a gracious loser is just as important as being a good winner.
Principled: an IB Learner Profile Attribute

We are halfway through the 2022-2023 school year! Winter break is a time to reflect, relax, spend time with loved ones, and simply enjoy your extended "brain break." Be sure to catch up on your favorite book as it is important to continue to read during the holiday season. Happy holidays and be safe!

JCMS Students shine inside and outside of school!

Quoted from STARBASE Maxwell SKY ZONE's Newsletter...

STARBASE MAXWELL 2.0 Program Information

"STARBASE Maxwell 2.0 is a school-based, after-school STEM mentoring program for middle school-age students. Each club meets once a week to learn about a specific STEM topic through hands-on activities and projects. However, STARBASE 2.0 is more than just learning about STEM. It also includes personal growth and mentorship activities and is supported by STEM coaches - people from the local community who have a background or interest in STEM and are willing to help students grow and learn. STEM coaches help students make connections between the STEM skills they are learning and how they will be used in the real world. They also help students learn vital personal skills like teamwork, communication, goal-setting, and planning. By the end of the STARBASE 2.0 club, students have expanded their STEM knowledge and improved the soft skills they will need to succeed in high school and beyond."
