Principal's Message
Kia ora, Hi, Kia orana, Kumusta, Ciao, Hallo, Dia duit, Halo, Namaste, Bonjour..
Welcome to the school year. We keep in our prayers those who have been effected by the cyclone around the country and pray for those who are missing and those who died.
We were privileged to welcome Father Alfonso into our community, May God Bless Fr Alfonso as he ministers to our Parish.
Our Whānau connection day was a wonderful success. It was great to see everyone again and for the students to connect after the holidays. Thank you for the positive feedback, teacher feedback was how important it was to learn from you and your family the goals for your child and more about them as individuals.
Over the holidays the school was painted by Mr Hughes. He has made an absolutely fantastic job and the school looks great. Building work along the front part of the office and library has started. A new cover for the walkway is being built. Yesterday the fencing went up along the front entrance to the school. A new fence is being builT and minor redesign of steps etc to make it safer to enter and exit the school.
At the opening school Mass we welcomed Fr Alfonso, Hollow's Family, Armstrong Family, Heta Family and McHardy Family to the school. May they always feel welcomed and supported by our community.
I am aware that as we move into a time of financial recession things will be more challenging for families. If you are in need, please do not hesitate to come and talk to me or phone. Particularly if you find it difficult to take part in fundraising events, as we never want our students to be in the situation that they will miss out. We have many discrete ways of ensuring that they participate fully in all that is happening at school. We are here to support your child and your family. If the Attendance dues are causing you a challenge please phone or see me as soon as possible
God Bless

In Times of Natural Disasters
Lord, please be with our communities and keep them safe as they make heroic efforts in dangerous situations to support those in need.
Lord, please be with everyone waiting to be supported, keep them safe, and bring help to them soon.
God, bless each and every person affected by this storm and surround them with Your love, protection, and angels.
Let them know there are millions of us out here praying for them and their loved ones.
We give You all the praise and glory forever, Lord, and know that even in the darkest hours, You are always with us.

CATHOLIC CORNER
Today is Ash Wednesday -the beginning of Lent, a 6 week time of preparation for Christ’s coming at Easter. This morning the school joined the parish at Mass and received the sign of the cross marked in ashes - a symbol which reminds us of Jesus’ sacrifice to us when He died on the cross. We are called during this time of Lent to spend more time in prayer; giving what we can to others and changing our ways -letting go of bad habits or choices and trying to become a better person.
The students have started their Inquiry into our school Charism. Maybe you could help them find out about these special people-Catherine McAuley, Suzanne Aubert, Peter Chanel and Bishop Pompallier or about the history of our school. Some of our school families have quite a long connection with St Joseph’s and may have stories to share.
The Sunday gospel reminded us to ‘love our enemies and pray for people who are unkind to you and who say bad things about you.’ (Matt 5:43-48) A hard thing to do sometimes but by forgiving those who hurt us, we are showing them true compassion.

St Joseph's Community Group - SJCG
The St Joseph's Community Group are meeting this Sunday at 4pm at Barden and Co. offices.
They have many great fundraising ideas and ways to support our school community.
If you would like to come along and join the group - please do.
This weekends meeting will be about the upcoming market day next month.
ST JOSEPH SCHOOL - WAIHI BEACH OP SHOP
We are in need of a few more helpers to go on the roster for the Waihi Beach Op shop.
St Joseph's School is part of the Waihi Beach Op Shop. There are 8 organisations involved in the day to day running of the Op Shop and each year the profits are distributed between the 8 organisations. Last year we received $12,000 to go towards our tamariki's education.
We are after some willing volunteers to go on the St Joseph's school roster. You may like to ask family members eg. Grandparents, Aunties and Uncles, if they could spare a few hours to do a shift. We are on shop duty roughly 3 to 4 days per month. Two people on at each shift. Morning shift 9am to 12 noon and afternoon shift 12 noon to 3pm. You can either do a full day or take on a particular shift.
Please contact Jan-Marie if you are interested. 078638653 or office@wsj.school.nz
