Somersworth Career Technical Center News & Updates

It's been a month of hustling and bustling here at the Somersworth Career Technical Center. As we are gearing up for our renovation we have begun the process of Spring Cleaning as one would say! Along with cleaning and packing our teachers have been hard at work inventorying their classrooms and meeting with their advisories to learn what's new in industry!

We are very excited to announce that the plans for the CTC are in both the main office of the high school as well as the career technical center office. So if you are curious to see what we've been creating - please come and take a peek!

As always if you are interested in becoming a part of our advisory boards please email Mrs. Carrington at

The Culinary Arts Program

Servsafe and Beyond

Five Culinary Art students have passed their national servsafe exam- Hannah Weeden, Alyssa O’Connor, Merrick Mooney, Eryn Libby (from Spaulding) and Gavin Allen (from Oyster River High School). This is a difficult exam and required 40+ hours of classroom instruction to cover the material. Their certification is valid for 5 years and is recognized by Culinary Arts programs, the certificate usually waives this course for them in college.

Our Culinary students last month prepared 625 Sugar Cookies for the Pumpkin Festival and then moved on to make 25 dozen cookies which were donated to the Senior Citizens Picnic (along with Pasta Salad) – all of this was completed in a single week!

NH Auto Show - College and Career Day

Students from the Automotive Technology Program participated in the NH Auto Show on October 23rd. They traveled to Bedford, NH to experience cars from a variety of brands as well as got the chance to talk to various community colleges that offer automotive technology programs.

Building Trades

Dismantling the Greenhouse

As we look at renovating our career technical education programs, it is often more than the programs that receive a face lift. This year the walls of the Career Tech Greenhouse are coming down to make room for our updated programs. Although we were sad to see the Agriculture Program leave us a couple years ago, our current Building Trades students have had the opportunity to learn about demolition! Over the past couple weeks the students have been balancing their classwork with helping dismantle the Greenhouse to kick off the renovation. We are very excited to be able to expose our students to such a project because it only comes around about every 20 years!

Topper Tots

Topper Tots, the preschool attached to Somersworth Career Technical Center, has openings for morning and afternoon sessions as well as provides full day care for children ages 3-5 years old from 7 AM – 4:30 PM throughout the school year. Any parent looking for care should contact Ms. Canard at the Career Technical Center. Ms. Canard can be contacted via email at or 603-692-2242.
