eLearning Continues
We that hope that all of our Grissom families are doing well and staying healthy. Friday's announcement by the governor that eLearning will continue for the rest of this calendar year, while not necessarily shocking, was probably tough to hear.
We feel for our 8th-grade students who are finishing their academic careers at Kirby School District. We are working on plans to recognize and celebrate this milestone. Please know that we are missing students in all grades and are looking forward to seeing them when we can safely do so.
We continue to work on ways to meet the needs of our students and families. A new page has been added to our website for parents. These are additional resources that you may choose to use with your students. They do not replace what teachers are assigning, but are meant to enhance their learning and provide additional resources to use at home if you so choose.
We will continue to update information on our website and through this newsletter. Please don't hesitate to email any of our Grissom staff. We are happy to answer any questions or concerns that arise. We look forward to seeing our Patriots soon! #D140Together
Math Bowl
The 2020 South Cook Regional Math Bowl scheduled for Thursday, May 7th and Friday, May 8th at Prairie State has been officially cancelled for this year.
We want to extend a big thank you to the following students who participated:
Kenneth Peters, 6th grade
Jack Radtke, 6th grade
Nathan Yedwofski, 8th grade
Social Emotional Well-Being
In light of Governor Pritzker’s decision to suspend in-school learning for the remainder of the academic year, it is necessary to discuss the emotional and mental well-being of our students and families. It is important to understand that responses to the governor’s decision will vary from person to person. There is no right or wrong way to deal with the news that in-person learning will not resume. Some students may be devastated to not say goodbye to their teachers, while others may feel relieved not to have to go back to school. What is most important to remember is that no matter the response, our attention should focus on our students' emotional needs and well-being.
Keeping in mind that every home faces different obstacles and concerns and that every family’s reactions and responses will look and sound different, Kirby School District 140 is offering our students crisis counseling. Listed below you will find every school building’s social worker, counselor, and administrator’s contact information. Should your family need assistance, please reach out. We are here for you.

Congratulations to Our NJHS Class of 2020-2021
Congratulations to the forty-six seventh-grade students who will be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). It is our hope to have an induction ceremony to celebrate these students in the fall. In order to qualify, students must have a career cumulative GPA of at least 3.8 and have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments but also challenges them to further develop their leadership skills through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Keep in Touch!
Respectfully,
Mrs. Deborah Broadwell
